Touch sensitivity makes the touchscreen more responsive to intended touches, which may help with gloves or a screen protector. They solve different problems: use the first for accidental pocket input and try the second when taps are missed.
How the two settings differ

Samsung describes Accidental touch protection as keeping the screen off in dark places to help avoid actions such as unlocking the phone, making calls, or sending messages. Its Galaxy S23 series manual describes it as preventing touch input when the device is in a dark place such as a pocket or bag. Samsung’s US setup guide for the Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7, and Z Flip7 FE also discusses unintended touches near screen edges or corners; that model-family guidance should not be assumed to describe every Galaxy device. Touch sensitivity is not a pocket-protection setting. Samsung says it enhances touchscreen responsiveness, and recommends trying it with a screen protector or gloves. If the screen is too sensitive, Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance suggests turning it off. [Samsung touchscreen troubleshooting]
Where to find the settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Look for Accidental touch protection or Touch sensitivity, then change the control that matches your problem.
Samsung’s general guidance places both controls under Settings > Display, but neither is available on every Galaxy device. If a control is missing, search for its name in Settings or check Display; its absence may reflect your model, software version, or carrier. If your phone wakes in a pocket or bag
- In Settings > Display, turn on Accidental touch protection, if available.
- Open Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures.
- Turn off Lift to wake and Double tap to wake. Samsung notes that disabling both may provide better results.
Most Galaxy phones have Accidental touch protection enabled by default, according to Samsung; this is not true of every device. In a very dark place, a lock icon may appear. Samsung says to swipe the icon left or right to dismiss the protection. These steps are troubleshooting options, not a guaranteed fix for every model. If intended taps are missed
- Check the screen protector: Misalignment, damage, peeling edges, dust, air bubbles, or stacked films can interfere with touch response. Samsung advises removing, realigning, or replacing a misaligned or damaged protector.
- Try Touch sensitivity: Turn it on under Settings > Display if your model offers it. It may help with a protector or gloves, but it cannot fix every cause of missed input.
- Check for moisture: A wet screen may not respond properly even on a water-resistant phone. Gently wipe it with a soft, lint-free cloth without pressing hard.
If a protector needs replacing, match it to your exact Galaxy model. Samsung’s guidance does not quantify how much either setting changes responsiveness or reduces accidental touches. [Samsung touchscreen troubleshooting]

Why the controls may differ by Galaxy model
The exact options can vary by model, software version, and wireless provider. Samsung’s Canada guidance applies to mobile devices sold in Canada and cautions that either control may be absent on some Galaxy devices. Its US setup guide addresses the Fold7, Flip7, and Flip7 FE specifically, while the Galaxy S23 series manual also notes that some features vary by model.
