The Galaxy A56 is the better pick if you want a higher-tier chipset, an aluminum frame, and a higher-resolution ultrawide camera. The Galaxy A36 offers nearly the same core experience and may be the smarter buy when it costs substantially less. Both are 2025 models, so compare their current local prices and availability with the newer Galaxy A57 and A37 before choosing.

Galaxy A56 vs A36 at a glance

Chipset Exynos 1580 Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 The A56 has the higher-tier platform on paper; the chipset names alone do not establish a specific performance gap.

Which phone is the better buy?

Choose the Galaxy A56 if its advantages matter to you

  • You want the higher-tier chipset on paper and more performance headroom, while recognizing that no universal benchmark gap is established here.
  • You prefer an aluminum frame over plastic.
  • You use the ultrawide camera often and want its higher listed resolution.
  • You value Best Face, which Samsung lists as an A56-only feature.

Choose the Galaxy A36 if it is meaningfully cheaper

  • You want the same headline display size and refresh rate, battery capacity, charging power, IP rating, and software-support promise.
  • Your photography mainly uses the main camera: both phones list a 50MP main camera and 5MP macro camera.
  • The A36’s lower current price leaves enough savings to justify its plastic frame, lower-resolution ultrawide, and lower-tier chipset.

Do not use the original launch prices as a guide to today’s value. Tech Advisor reported launch prices of £499/$499 for the A56 and £399/$399.99 for the A36; these are historical figures, not current offers. Its review judged the A56 ahead in the performance and camera categories it assessed, but described the margin as modest. Read its findings as that outlet’s evaluation, not a guarantee for every user: Tech Advisor’s A56 vs A36 review.

Performance: the A56 has the stronger paper specification

Samsung equips the A56 with an Exynos 1580 and the A36 with a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. That gives the A56 the higher-tier platform on paper, making it the more appealing option if you expect to keep demanding apps or games in regular use. The chipset comparison alone does not say how large the real-world difference will be, and no universal performance percentage should be inferred from it.

Cameras: the ultrawide is the clearest hardware difference

Samsung’s comparison lists a 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, and 5MP macro camera on the A56; the A36 has a 50MP main, 8MP ultrawide, and 5MP macro. Both are listed with 12MP front cameras, and Best Face is listed for the A56 only. The resolution advantage matters most if you regularly frame wide scenes; it is not, by itself, proof that every A56 photo will look better. Camera details may vary by market, so check the regional Samsung specification for the exact model you plan to buy.

Display, battery, charging, and protection are close

Samsung lists a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with refresh rates up to 120Hz, a 5,000mAh battery, up to 45W wired charging, and IP67 protection for both phones. Those shared headline specifications leave little reason to pay extra for the A56 on display or charging specifications alone.

Battery capacity does not translate directly into identical endurance. In Tech Advisor’s regular battery benchmark, the A36 finished 14% behind the A56. That is the result of that publication’s test, not a prediction that every owner will get a 14% difference; your brightness, signal conditions, apps, and usage affect battery life.

Samsung says IP67 testing covers submersion in up to 1 meter of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. The company advises against beach or pool use and says water resistance can diminish with normal wear. Treat the rating as a defined test classification, not a guarantee against water damage.

Build and software support

The A56 has an aluminum frame; the A36 uses plastic. This is a material preference, not a complete durability comparison. Both phones share Samsung’s stated commitment to up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and six years of security updates. “Up to” matters: the promise describes the support commitment, not proof that every future update is already available.

Check the newer generation before you buy

The A56 and A36 are 2025 phones, not Samsung’s latest A-series generation in 2026. Samsung announced the Galaxy A57 and A37 in March 2026 and said U.S. availability would begin April 9, 2026. That announcement does not establish prices or stock in every country. How to make the final choice

  1. Check current local prices for the A56 and A36 from sellers whose warranty and return terms you can verify.
  2. Compare each offer with the newer A57 and A37 in your market, including the exact storage and regional model.
  3. Decide whether the A56’s chipset, aluminum frame, and 12MP ultrawide justify the actual price difference for your use.
  4. If those A56 advantages are not worth the premium, buy the A36 only when its savings are substantial enough to outweigh the differences.
