What is different between the Galaxy A56 and A36?
Processor: A56 has the higher-tier chip
Samsung lists its Exynos 1580 in the A56 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 in the A36. That makes the A56 the higher-spec choice on paper, but the chipset names alone do not establish how much faster it will feel in a particular app or game. This comparison is based on published specifications, not controlled performance testing.
Camera hardware: A56 has a higher-resolution ultrawide
Both phones have a 50MP main camera and a 5MP macro camera. The A56’s ultrawide is 12MP, compared with 8MP on the A36. That is a hardware distinction, not proof that every A56 photo will look better: image quality also depends on factors such as processing and shooting conditions.

Build: aluminum on A56, plastic on A36
TechRadar reports an aluminum frame for the A56 and a plastic frame for the A36. The A56 weighs 198g to the A36’s 195g. Choose based on the construction you prefer rather than treating a few grams as a meaningful performance difference.
What do the phones have in common?
Display
Both use a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. On the published size, resolution, panel type and refresh rate, there is little reason to choose one over the other. Brightness figures are not directly consistent across the cited sources: Samsung’s announcement says up to 1,200 nits, while TechRadar lists 1,900 nits peak. Without resolving the measurement mode and conditions for the exact market model, those numbers should not be treated as an apples-to-apples comparison.

Battery, charging and durability
Each phone has a 5,000mAh battery and supports wired charging up to 45W. TechRadar says neither supports wireless charging. Shared capacity and charging specifications do not guarantee equal battery life; actual endurance varies with usage. Samsung rates both models IP67. That rating is not a promise of protection in every water exposure or a reason to deliberately get a phone wet.
Software support
Samsung’s stated commitment for the series is up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades, plus six years of security updates. “Up to” matters: it is a support commitment, not a claim that every update is already available or will arrive on the same schedule in every market.

Galaxy A56 vs A36 price difference
At U.S. launch, Samsung listed the A36 from $399.99 and the A56 from $499.99, a $100 difference between their starting prices. Samsung announced the A36’s U.S. availability beginning March 26, 2025; its A56 U.S. announcement was updated on July 18, 2025, when it said the phone was available from $499.99. These are dated launch-price examples, not current offers.

Choose the Galaxy A36 if value is the priority
The A36 is the practical choice when it is meaningfully cheaper in your market and you are satisfied with its processor and 8MP ultrawide. You still get the shared screen, battery and charging specifications, IP67 rating and update commitment.
Choose the Galaxy A56 if its upgrades justify the live premium
The A56 is easier to justify if you value its listed chipset, aluminum frame or higher-resolution ultrawide and the actual price difference fits your budget. There is no universal amount that makes the upgrade worthwhile: compare current, like-for-like local offers rather than relying on the old $100 U.S. launch gap.
