The Galaxy M56 is the newer phone, with Samsung-listed 45 W charging and 4K HDR front-camera video; the Galaxy A55 offers a 32 MP selfie camera, stereo support and microSD expansion up to 1 TB. Both have a 50 MP OIS main camera and a 5,000 mAh typical-capacity battery. There is no verified current price difference for matching configurations, so the better buy depends on the live price and which features matter to you.

Which phone has the better display?
The M56’s listed diagonal is 17.11 cm, compared with 16.83 cm for the A55, so it is slightly larger by Samsung’s figures. Both are AMOLED screens with a listed 120 Hz refresh rate. Samsung’s M56 feature page also claims 33% greater brightness and 36% slimmer bezels, but those are vendor comparisons tied to Samsung’s stated basis, not independent measurements establishing that the M56 screen is better in every condition.

How do their cameras differ?
Rear cameras
Both phones list a 50 MP OIS main camera. The A55’s other listed rear cameras are 12 MP and 5 MP; the M56’s are an 8 MP ultra-wide and 2 MP macro. The resolution figures alone do not show which phone takes better photos, and there is no comparable independent camera test here to settle that.
Selfies and video
The A55 has the higher stated front-camera resolution at 32 MP. Samsung explicitly promotes 4K HDR recording from the M56’s 12 MP front camera, while the cited A55 page does not specify 4K front-camera recording. Choose based on whether selfie resolution or that stated video capability matters more; megapixels alone do not establish image quality.

Charging, battery and storage
Charging
The M56 has a clearer charging advantage on paper: Samsung specifies 45 W super-fast charging, with the charger sold separately. The A55 page lists Super Fast Charging but does not specify a comparable wattage in the cited material. Both phones have a 5,000 mAh typical-capacity battery; Samsung’s A55 page states up to 28 hours of video playback, but that figure is not a head-to-head endurance result.
Storage flexibility
The A55 explicitly supports microSD cards up to 1 TB, in addition to its listed internal-storage variants. The M56 retail configurations found for this comparison are 128 GB and 256 GB, but comparable microSD support is not established by the cited M56 information. If you need removable storage, verify the exact model’s specifications before buying rather than assuming support.

Which phone is newer, lighter and better supported?
Samsung’s interim reports place the A55 in 2024 and the M56 in April 2025; the A56 was identified as the A55’s successor in March 2025. The M56 is listed at 180 g and 7.2 mm thick, versus 213 g and 8.2 mm for the A55, making it lighter and thinner by those reported figures. Those measurements do not establish that either phone is more resistant to drops.
Samsung states six generations of Android upgrades and six years of security updates for the M56. A directly comparable A55 support commitment, including its start date and update status, is not established here, so the M56’s stated policy should not be presented as proof it receives longer support than the A55.

What is the price difference in India?
Samsung’s launch announcement described the M56 as “under ₹30,000.” That was launch positioning, not a current selling price. A synchronized current price for the A55 and M56 in equivalent RAM and storage configurations is not established, so a reliable rupee difference cannot be stated. Check the same-day listings for matching capacities and account for seller, stock, bank or exchange discounts, and whether a charger is included.

Which should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy M56 if
- You want Samsung-listed 45 W charging and are prepared to check or buy a compatible charger separately.
- You value the M56’s stated 4K HDR front-camera video capability.
- You prefer a lighter, thinner phone based on the published dimensions and weight.
- Its stated Android-upgrade and security-update policy is a priority, while recognizing there is no directly comparable A55 policy established here.
Choose the Galaxy A55 if
- You want a 32 MP front camera rather than the M56’s 12 MP unit.
- You need its explicitly listed microSD expansion up to 1 TB.
- Stereo support or NFC, both listed on Samsung’s A55 page, matters to you.
- Its current price for the storage configuration you need is more attractive than the M56’s.
Before deciding, compare the same RAM and storage capacity at current India prices. Give weight to the features you will actually use: 45 W charging and front-video recording on one side, or the A55’s stated selfie resolution, microSD support and listed stereo support on the other. Do not treat launch positioning or a difference between unmatched variants as a current value verdict.
