Neither Saily nor Airalo is universally better. The right choice depends on the exact destination package and your trip: compare matching data amounts and validity, the local network, when the plan starts, any high-speed data limit, hotspot terms, and what happens if activation fails. Airalo lists packages for more than 200 countries and regions, but that breadth does not guarantee service in a particular location or make its package the better value.
How Saily and Airalo compare
| What to compare | Saily | Airalo |
|---|---|---|
| Coverage | Check the destination and supported network on the specific package page. | Airalo says its catalog covers over 200 countries and regions; check the specific package for destination and network details. |
| When validity starts | Saily says a plan activates at the destination or 180 days after purchase. Check the plan’s terms for your situation. | Most packages start their validity when they connect to a supported network; some start on installation. The package policy controls. |
| Data allowance | Check whether the package has a fixed allowance or unlimited data and whether it specifies a high-speed limit. | Allowance is for the whole validity period, not per day. Some unlimited packages may reduce speeds after a stated usage threshold. |
| Hotspot and device support | Confirm tethering terms and eSIM compatibility for your handset on the package and device information pages. | Confirm tethering terms and eSIM compatibility for your handset on the package and device information pages. |
| Refunds | Refund eligibility is conditional; activated plans are treated as used, and a refund is not guaranteed. | Check current package and provider refund terms before purchase. |
| Like-for-like price and speed | Not established for an unspecified destination and travel dates. Compare the current packages for your trip; no independent head-to-head speed result is established. | |
Which eSIM is better, Saily or Airalo?
Choose based on the package that fits your trip, rather than the provider name alone. A lower displayed price may not be cheaper overall if its validity is too short, the data allowance is smaller, or you need to buy another package. Likewise, broad catalog coverage does not establish which local network will work better at your destination.
Start with the destination and network
Check the exact country or region, then identify the network listed for the package. Airalo says it offers packages for over 200 countries and regions, but availability and supported networks are package-specific. Coverage listings are not a guarantee of signal quality in every place you visit.

Compare plans with the same data allowance and validity period. Include likely top-ups or a second package if your trip is longer than the plan. Be careful with “unlimited” labels: Airalo says some unlimited packages may have reduced speeds after the usage threshold shown in that package’s details.

Check hotspot and compatibility
Before buying, confirm that your handset supports eSIM and that the package permits the hotspot use you need. The package-level hotspot rules and compatibility of individual handset models are not established here, so verify both with the provider for your exact device and plan.
When does an eSIM plan start counting?
Validity timing affects how much of a plan you can use during a trip. A plan that starts on installation may begin counting before you arrive; one that starts on a supported network connection may not. Read the policy for the exact package before installing or activating it.

Saily activation timing
Saily says its plan activates at the destination or 180 days after purchase. Follow the product-specific instructions, and do not assume that every plan follows a different activation rule without checking its details.

Airalo validity timing
Airalo says, “For most of Airalo’s eSIM packages, the validity period begins when the eSIM connects to a supported network.” Some packages instead begin on installation, so the package policy takes precedence.

How much data do you actually get?
Check whether the listed amount is a total allowance for the plan or a daily allowance. Airalo explains that a 1 GB, 7-day package provides 1 GB across the full seven-day period; it is possible to use all 1 GB on the first day. Do not read that as 1 GB per day.
For either provider, read the package details for any high-speed data threshold, reduced-speed condition, or separate top-up option. Those specifics can change the practical value of a plan, even when two packages use similar headline labels.

Is Saily cheaper than Airalo?
There is no defensible global cheapest-provider answer without a destination, travel dates, and matched data requirement. Prices and package availability vary. Compare the total cost for plans with equivalent data and validity, and account for any additional purchase you may need if your trip outlasts the package.
What happens if activation fails or you need a refund?
Saily’s refund policy is conditional. Its help center says, “If you have installed the eSIM and activated the Data Plan, Saily will consider it as used, therefore, a full refund cannot be guaranteed.” Its consumer terms say a non-subscription plan may qualify for a refund request when more than 99% of the data remains and the request is made within the applicable period. The terms, last updated August 27, 2026, generally give non-subscription requests a 30-calendar-day window; refund decisions remain at Saily’s discretion, and expired plans are not refundable. Subscription terms use different usage thresholds and a 14-day request period. Check the current terms that apply to your purchase.

Before activating either provider’s plan, keep access to Wi-Fi and follow the provider’s troubleshooting instructions if the eSIM does not connect. For support or a refund request, use the relevant provider’s current help route and have your order and plan details available. Do not assume that installation alone or a failed connection guarantees a refund.
What does a third-party comparison say?
AloSIM’s comparison page, updated October 1, 2026, names Airalo its overall winner across its eight chosen categories, while reporting Saily ahead in customer reviews and hotspot. That is the publisher’s scoring, not an independently validated universal ranking or a destination-specific performance test. It cannot determine which package is the better choice for your route.
