Reignited is a fresh-start presentation of the existing RuneScape game; RS4 is a separate MMORPG in early development. Jagex says RS4 will sit alongside RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and Dragonwilds—not replace them. It has not yet announced whether accounts or progress will transfer, or confirmed RS4’s platforms, release date, membership terms, combat, or skills.
What is RuneScape Reignited?
Reignited is Jagex’s way of presenting the existing RuneScape with its restoration changes and a remastered beginning. It is not the name of RS4. The official Reignited page describes a refreshed opening journey from Lumbridge, including updated gameplay and graphics, a Gielinor Adventure Guide, and officially supported plugins integrated into the game.
Jagex says the restoration work responds to player feedback on areas including the user interface, combat, visuals, and balance. The company also says Hero Pass has been removed and Treasure Hunter is gone. Those are Jagex’s descriptions of its changes, rather than an independent assessment of their effect on play.
The Reignited page describes its world as having no Treasure Hunter. Separately, Jagex said it retired Treasure Hunter on January 19, 2026, after a consultation in which it says more than 120,000 players voted in favour of removal (Jagex’s Treasure Hunter update). The Reignited page also says later parts of the remastered journey are planned for later in 2027.

What is RS4?
RS4 is a new MMORPG that Jagex says is being built in Unreal Engine. It is at an early development stage, and the company describes it as still a few years away. The announcement places the game in Gielinor’s Sixth Age, beginning in Ashenfall, a landmass north-east of Gielinor that was first explored in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Its story is set years after the Dragonwilds events and the destruction of the Dragon Queen Kuldra. See Jagex’s RS4 announcement.
Jagex’s position on whether RS4 replaces the current games is explicit: “Let’s make one thing really clear. RS4 is not a replacement for any of our games, be it Old School, RuneScape or Dragonwilds.” The statement appears in the official announcement. Jagex also says the existing games have dedicated teams, roadmaps, and continued investment; that is the company’s assurance about its plans.

Jagex says it intends to share more about RS4’s world, gameplay, development team, and ways for players to get involved in 2027. It names integrity, permanent progression, and community-driven development as design principles. These are announced intentions, not a full design specification. The company has not given a launch year; “a few years away” should not be converted into a specific date.

No—not according to Jagex’s announcement. RS4 is described as an additional game, not a renamed or replacement version of the existing RuneScape. Will your RuneScape account or progress carry over?
Jagex has not announced whether an existing account, character, inventory, or other progress will transfer to RS4. The company lists account and progression questions among the details it cannot yet answer. Do not assume either a wipe or a migration based on the RS4 name, its Unreal Engine foundation, or how current RuneScape works.
The Reignited page’s description of a “new beginning” also does not establish whether or how a current account connects to that experience. Check Jagex’s live information as it clarifies these arrangements; neither page currently sets out account-transfer rules.
