The Ruark Audio R2 Mk4 is a well-equipped tabletop radio and streaming system with FM, DAB/DAB+, internet radio, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi streaming in a compact, carefully finished cabinet. Reviewers praise its sound and usability, but it lacks AirPlay and Chromecast, and its premium price may be hard to justify if you need those services or expect hi-res audio support.
What the R2 Mk4 is—and who it suits
The R2 Mk4 is an all-in-one music system for a desk, kitchen or living space. It combines broadcast radio, network streaming, Bluetooth playback and physical connections, so it can serve as a radio and a speaker for several sources without adding separate components.
It makes the most sense for someone who values a refined tabletop design, radio reception and supported streaming services in one unit. It is a less obvious fit if AirPlay, Chromecast, hi-res audio or Bluetooth headphone listening is essential. The Stuff review by Dan Grabham rated it 4/5 in 2023, citing its strengths alongside its price and missing connectivity options; What Hi-Fi? continues to include it in its 2026 internet-radio recommendations. Those are editorial assessments, not results from a controlled comparison.
What does the R2 Mk4 sound like?
Ruark specifies two 75 mm NS+ drivers and an 18 W amplifier, along with a tuned bass-reflex enclosure. The manufacturer’s specification sheet lists a 55 Hz–20 kHz frequency response; that is a published specification, not an independent measurement.

Reviewers describe the sound as rich, detailed and weighty, with strong dynamics, timing and texture. These are listening impressions from the cited reviews rather than measurements in a shared test environment. What Hi-Fi? praises the presentation but notes that hi-res audio support would have been welcome.
Radio and streaming options
The R2 Mk4 covers FM, DAB/DAB+ and internet radio. Ruark lists eight presets for each radio mode, and the FM tuner supports RDS across 87.5–108 MHz. Over Wi-Fi, the system supports Spotify Connect, Deezer and Amazon Music. It also accepts Bluetooth audio using Bluetooth 5.2, with SBC, BLE and A2DP listed in Ruark’s specification.
Service availability can change: Ruark’s user guide says supported services may change without notice. The R2 Mk4 does not list Apple AirPlay or Chromecast support. If you depend on casting directly from an Apple device or a Chromecast-compatible app, confirm that your preferred playback route works before buying.
Connections, headphones and everyday use
On the rear, the R2 Mk4 has a 3.5 mm stereo line input, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and USB-C. Ruark documents USB-C playback from FAT32 flash drives for MP3 files up to 48 kHz/320 kbps; the port also provides 5 V/1 A (5 W) charging. An adjustable input level is available for the line input.

Bluetooth works for sending audio to the R2 Mk4, not for sending audio from it to wireless headphones. Ruark’s R2 Mk4 user guide states: “You cannot use the Bluetooth function on your R2 to connect to Bluetooth headphones.” For private listening, use the 3.5 mm headphone output and wired headphones.
Controls and practical features
The system has a high-contrast color TFT display with automatic dimming, dual alarms, a real-time clock with internal battery backup and automatic standby. Ruark also supports control through the UNDOK app. Stuff notes that complex tasks require the app, which may matter if you want every operation handled directly on the device.
Ruark documents an optional compact remote control with four direct-select preset station keys. It may be useful if you want to change preset stations without reaching for the unit or opening the app.

Design, dimensions and finishes
Ruark’s specification sheet lists the cabinet at 175 × 340 × 135 mm (H × W × D), increasing to 185 × 340 × 150 mm when controls and aerial are included. The listed weight is 2.9 kg. Allow for the larger dimensions when checking shelf or counter space, particularly where height or depth is tight.

Reviewers characterize the unit as appealingly designed and well made; those are subjective assessments, while the dimensions and weight are manufacturer-published figures.

Look elsewhere if AirPlay, Chromecast, hi-res support or Bluetooth headphones are must-haves. Check the current local price and the exact service and connection requirements for your region before purchasing; the cited product documents do not establish a current price or retailer availability.
