How much faster did the leaked RTX 5080 laptop result appear?
In a report published February 7, 2025, Tom’s Hardware said an alleged RTX 5080 Laptop GPU scored 21,948 in 3DMark Time Spy. The outlet compared that with an 18,271 average for RTX 4080 Laptop GPU submissions and characterized the difference as 20%.
Tom’s Hardware also listed 20,406 as its RTX 4090 Laptop GPU average. Those comparison averages were compiled from publicly available 3DMark results; they were not results from matched laptops in a controlled test. The 21,948 score was attributed to an alleged screenshot shared on Bilibili by a user identified as Peak player DFWJ.
Is the RTX 5080 laptop benchmark leak verified?
No independent reproduction or original benchmark submission is established by the available account. The exact laptop model, its cooling, and the GPU’s total graphics power (TGP) were unknown. Tom’s Hardware said those gaps made a direct comparison impossible and cautioned that the scores were not guaranteed to reflect real-world performance.

That uncertainty matters because laptop GPUs can run at different power levels and behave differently depending on a laptop’s thermal design. A result from one unknown machine cannot isolate the GPU generation as the reason for a score difference.

NVIDIA’s laptop comparison page lists these specifications. They describe the products, not benchmark performance.

The listed power ranges overlap, but the specific GPU power setting in a laptop affects the comparison. These are laptop components; the specifications and leak should not be conflated with desktop RTX 5080 or RTX 4080 cards. NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Series laptop page also lists DLSS 4 among the platform’s features, but feature availability does not validate the leaked score or establish a game-performance uplift.
What the Time Spy percentage does—and does not—tell you
The reported 20% difference belongs to this particular Time Spy comparison. It is not a measured average across games, and it cannot be translated into a 20% gaming advantage. The cited material does not establish a controlled same-laptop comparison, an independent gaming average, or a representative sample of laptops.

Time Spy is a synthetic benchmark. Game results can vary with the game, resolution, graphics settings, CPU, cooling, power limits, and whether features such as DLSS or frame generation are enabled. Native raster performance, ray tracing, and generated frames are distinct measures; mixing them can obscure what a comparison actually shows.

- The exact laptop SKU and price.
- The GPU subsystem power or TGP configuration, alongside sustained performance and cooling.
- The CPU and memory configuration.
- The display resolution and refresh rate.
- Benchmark or game settings, including resolution and graphics quality.
- Whether DLSS, frame generation, or other reconstruction features are enabled, and whether results measure native rendering, ray tracing, or generated frames.
The leaked result provides none of the machine-specific details needed to apply those checks to the tested RTX 5080 laptop. NVIDIA’s published specifications clarify the hardware configurations, but they do not resolve that missing context.
