Other shortcuts are reported by third parties and may not work on every device or software version. For reliable diagnostics and resets, use Roku’s standard Settings menus.
Roku’s documented hidden sequence: Developer Mode
Roku officially documents a remote sequence for entering Developer Mode. Its purpose is to let developers sideload and test their own apps, not to expose extra consumer settings. Sideloading means installing an app outside the Roku Streaming Store; Roku’s developer documentation describes using the device’s web plug-in for that process.
- Using a Roku remote or the Roku remote app, press Home three times.
- Press Up twice.
- Press Right, Left, Right, Left, Right.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to enable the Development Application Installer, read and accept the Developer Tools License Agreement, and set a password.
- The Roku device reboots and is activated in developer mode.
Roku’s instructions are for development and testing. Do not install apps from sources you do not trust. Roku Developer: Set up your Roku device for development.
Reported Roku menu shortcuts: what they may show
Tom’s Guide reported the following combinations on May 22, 2026. Roku’s official consumer guidance reviewed here does not confirm that these menus are supported across current models or software versions. Treat them as reported shortcuts, not guaranteed features; a sequence may do nothing or open a different screen. Tom’s Guide’s reported Roku shortcuts.

The platform sequence above is the one reported by Tom’s Guide; variants circulate elsewhere, and there is no official cross-model compatibility table in the sources cited here. A failed shortcut does not mean your Roku is broken. For routine troubleshooting, the documented Settings paths below are more dependable than these screens.
Use Roku’s documented network check for connection problems
Go to Settings > Network > Check connection. Roku says the device checks whether it can see the local network and reach the internet, then displays the results. Its connection-quality labels are Excellent, Good, Fair, and Poor.

Roku Support’s general speed guidance, in an article last updated September 8, 2026, is 3 Mbps for SD, 5 Mbps for HD, and 25 Mbps or more for 4K Ultra HD. These are guidelines, not guarantees of smooth playback, and individual streaming apps may have their own minimums. Roku Support: How to improve your internet connection.
- If the signal is weak, confirm the Roku is connected to the intended network and reconnect if needed.
- Restart the Roku and router, then check the connection again.
- If available, try another Wi-Fi band, install a software update, or use Ethernet if your model has an Ethernet port.
- Roku describes factory reset as an extreme step after other troubleshooting has failed.
Choose a reset based on what it changes
These options are not interchangeable. Start with the least disruptive action that addresses the problem.

System restart
On supported menu layouts, go to Settings > System > Power > System restart. If there is no Power submenu, skip it and look for System restart under Settings > System. Roku also says you can unplug the device for at least 10 seconds, then reconnect it. Roku Support Canada: How to system restart your Roku streaming device.
Network connection reset
Use this only when you are prepared to reconnect the Roku to Wi-Fi: the reset removes saved wireless details, including the network name (SSID) and password. Roku TV’s user guide says other settings and the device’s Roku account association are retained. Roku TV User Guide, version 12.5.

Factory reset
Roku recommends a factory reset only after other troubleshooting steps fail. Because it is more consequential than a restart or network reset, use Roku’s documented support instructions for your device rather than an unverified shortcut.
