TechRadar’s review praised its view, low-light color and two-way talk, but flagged Micro-USB charging and the subscription needed for saved recordings and richer person and package alerts. Ring does not publish a runtime figure in the cited product information, so battery life is the key unknown to weigh before buying.
Which Ring doorbell is this?
This review covers Ring’s second-generation 2026 Battery Doorbell 2K Plus. Ring’s UK product page calls it the “Battery Doorbell 2K Plus,” while TechRadar calls it the “Battery Video Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen).” Ring says the name changed but the features did not. It is not the earlier Battery Doorbell Plus, nor the lower-tier Battery Doorbell 2K. Check the exact generation and regional listing when comparing products or prices. Ring’s UK product page and TechRadar’s review identify the model and naming.
What are the picture and viewing features like?
Ring specifies Retinal 2K video, up to 6× Enhanced Zoom and a 140° horizontal by 140° vertical head-to-toe field of view. The square framing is designed to show visitors and the area around the doorstep in one view. TechRadar’s June 14, 2026 review found the framing and zoom useful for seeing both people and deliveries, and reported favorable low-light color performance. Those are the reviewer’s observations, not a guarantee that faces or packages will be identifiable at every distance or in every lighting condition.
For a useful image, the network matters too. Ring specifies dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and recommends at least 10 Mbps upload speed for its 2K devices; Ring cautions that resolution can vary with available bandwidth. That recommendation is a minimum, not a promise of a particular image quality in a busy or weak Wi-Fi environment. See Ring’s specifications.

Does it need a subscription?
According to TechRadar’s June 14, 2026 review, live view and real-time alerts are available without a subscription, while saved recordings and person and package alerts require one. That distinction matters: without a plan, you can respond to an event as it happens, but do not assume you can later review a recording of it. Ring plan features and terms can vary by region and change over time, so confirm the current terms for your country before purchase.
How is installation and charging?
Battery installation
The doorbell includes a Quick Release Battery Pack, mounting plate, corner kit, installation tools and hardware, and setup guide. Ring estimates a 10-minute installation; that is the manufacturer’s estimate, not a guaranteed time for every doorway. TechRadar reports that installation took under 30 minutes in its review, which is reviewer experience rather than a standardized installation test.

Wired connection
If you connect the doorbell to existing wiring, Ring specifies a standard transformer rated 8–24 VAC, maximum 40 VA, at 50/60 Hz. Check your existing transformer’s rating before connecting it; the presence of doorbell wires alone does not establish compatibility.
Battery runtime and charging
Neither Ring’s cited product page nor TechRadar’s review provides a quantified runtime figure suitable for quoting. Actual time between charges is therefore not established here. TechRadar also flags Micro-USB charging, a practical drawback if you prefer USB-C. A spare battery may reduce downtime while one pack charges, but confirm compatibility and regional availability before buying an additional pack.

How does the 2K Plus compare with the regular Battery Doorbell 2K?
The clearest sourced distinction is wireless connectivity. Ring specifies dual-band Wi-Fi 6 for the 2K Plus, while its regular Battery Doorbell 2K product page specifies single-band Wi-Fi 4 at 2.4 GHz. The pages cited here do not establish a complete same-market, same-generation price comparison or a comprehensive difference in included hardware and subscription terms, so those should be checked against the current listings rather than assumed.

It makes the most sense for someone who wants a battery-powered doorbell with a high-resolution, head-to-toe view, dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and two-way conversation, and is comfortable with Ring’s subscription tradeoff for recordings and richer alerts. It is a weaker fit if USB-C charging is a priority, if you want stored footage without a plan, or if you need a confidently stated battery interval before buying: the cited sources do not provide one.
