For eligible U.S. RIDGID tools, the Lifetime Service Agreement (LSA) can cover qualifying repairs and batteries for the original owner after the standard limited warranty ends—but only after the product qualifies and registration is accepted. Milwaukee’s common five-year tool warranty and DEWALT’s three-year warranty package work differently: Milwaukee’s term varies by product, while DEWALT separates defect coverage, first-year service, and a 90-day return guarantee.
There is no universal winner. Compare the written terms for the exact model, battery, purchase date, and seller; these U.S. programs should not be assumed to apply in other countries.
How the three programs compare
| Program | Published coverage for common eligible U.S. power tools | Key qualification |
|---|---|---|
| RIDGID Lifetime Service Agreement | Lifetime service, parts, and qualifying battery coverage for the original owner, after the standard three-year limited warranty | Eligible model and purchase channel; register within 90 days under the detailed terms; retain proof of purchase and approval details. Not transferable. |
| Milwaukee limited warranty | Five years for most covered electric power tools | Exceptions and other terms vary by product. Warranty is for the original purchaser; proof of purchase is recommended. |
| DEWALT common package | Three-year limited warranty, one-year free service contract, and 90-day money-back guarantee | Each period covers a different situation. The package is not universal; authorized-seller and product rules apply. |
These are different kinds of protection, not three interchangeable warranties. RIDGID calls its LSA a service agreement rather than a warranty; Milwaukee’s five-year statement is a common baseline with exceptions; and DEWALT’s three figures refer to separate benefits.
What RIDGID’s “lifetime” LSA covers—and what it requires
RIDGID’s detailed U.S. terms describe LSA eligibility for certain handheld and stationary tools, batteries, pneumatic tools, compressors, and outdoor power equipment. The original purchaser must elect to register an eligible product and submit proof of purchase for approval. The detailed terms set a 90-day registration window after purchase and require product details such as model and serial number. For qualifying kits, batteries and chargers may also need to be identified. After processing, RIDGID says it sends approval confirmation and a customer ID; keep those details, since RIDGID says they are needed along with personal identification when seeking LSA service.

Coverage and exclusions
For qualifying products, RIDGID’s detailed terms include normal-wear items such as brushes, chucks, motors, switches, and gears, as well as cordless batteries and specified pneumatic-tool components. That does not mean every battery or RIDGID-branded product is covered for life. Eligibility is product-specific, and the agreement excludes, among other things, misuse, abuse, neglect, alteration, unauthorized repair, user- or externally-caused damage, failure to follow the manual, and consumable accessories such as blades, bits, grinding discs, and sandpaper.
LSA is limited to the original purchaser and is nontransferable. Reconditioned tools are excluded from LSA and, according to the detailed terms, have a separate one-year limited warranty.
Registration and purchase-channel qualification
The detailed terms say LSA is available only for eligible RIDGID tools purchased at The Home Depot. RIDGID’s current program overview says eligible purchases may be from The Home Depot or an authorized retailer. Because these published descriptions differ, do not assume that a seller’s description alone establishes eligibility: check the current terms for the exact product and purchase before relying on LSA coverage.

How service is described
The detailed terms describe service through an authorized RIDGID service center. RIDGID’s current overview also presents a Service Direct route: file a claim online from the registered tool, use a prepaid FedEx label, and have the item repaired or replaced. The two pages describe different routes, so follow the current instructions RIDGID provides for your registered product rather than assuming one method applies to every claim. The detailed terms also state: “This Lifetime Service Agreement is not a warranty; it does not alter or limit the 3-Year Limited Service Warranty provided with your product, and it is not intended to create any implied warranties or rights of any kind including any warranties of MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.”

What Milwaukee’s five-year warranty means
Milwaukee Tool’s U.S. warranty coverage page says most covered electric power tools receive a five-year limited warranty against defects in material or workmanship, subject to exceptions. Its exact wording is: “Subject to certain exceptions, MILWAUKEE will repair or replace any part on an electric power tool which, after examination, is determined by MILWAUKEE to be defective in material or workmanship for a period of five (5) years after the date of purchase unless otherwise noted.”

The warranty applies to the original purchaser and requires product evaluation. Milwaukee lists exclusions that include misuse, alterations, abuse, normal wear and tear, lack of maintenance, and accidents. Milwaukee recommends including a receipt for the most accurate warranty evaluation and provides a warranty checker and service-order portal. Do not extend the five-year term to every Milwaukee product: batteries, accessories, and other categories may have their own periods, and Milwaukee’s registration-and-warranty page describes a three-year limited warranty for some products.

How DEWALT’s three warranty periods differ
For most tools displaying the common U.S. three-year/one-year/90-day package, DEWALT provides three separate benefits. The three-year limited warranty addresses defects due to faulty materials or workmanship. It covers the original end-user purchaser, but normal wear and tool abuse are excluded from this defect warranty.

DEWALT’s U.S. warranty page states: “DEWALT will maintain the tool and replace worn parts caused by normal use, for free, any time during the first year after purchase, or date of delivery of the product(whichever date is later).”
- 90-day money-back guarantee: For eligible power tools, lasers, or nailers if the buyer is dissatisfied, subject to the applicable terms.
Authorized-seller restrictions apply, subject to applicable law. Product packages vary, and some products have different stated coverage periods, so check the exact product rather than applying the common package to every DEWALT item. DEWALT Support’s U.S./Canada explainer, updated May 27, 2026, further emphasizes that these periods cover different things and describes purchase-date and location validation and service-center assessment; it does not establish a guaranteed outcome or turnaround time.

Choose based on the coverage that matches your likely need, not the largest number in a headline. RIDGID LSA may be attractive when the exact tool qualifies and accepted registration is in place, particularly because its detailed terms include certain wear items and cordless batteries beyond the standard three-year limited warranty. Milwaukee offers a longer stated term than DEWALT’s common defect warranty for most covered electric power tools, but the model-specific exceptions matter. DEWALT’s package is useful to assess as three separate protections: defects, normal-use maintenance during the first year, and a limited return guarantee.

Published terms do not establish which brand approves more claims, repairs tools faster, or costs less to own overall. A warranty comparison cannot answer those questions without comparable claim and ownership data.
Checklist for comparing an exact model
- Confirm the model or SKU and whether its product page assigns a special term.
- Record the type and length of coverage, distinguishing defect warranty, service agreement, free service, and return guarantee.
- Check whether normal wear is included and whether batteries, chargers, and kit components have separate terms.
- Verify registration deadlines, proof-of-purchase requirements, and any approval confirmation or customer ID you must retain.
- Check original-owner requirements and whether the seller and purchase channel qualify.
- Read exclusions for misuse, alterations, maintenance, consumables, and unauthorized repair.
- Follow the service route and shipping instructions stated for that specific product; do not assume a route or shipping obligation that the terms do not specify.
