What Revolut has promised affected customers
Béatrice Cossa-Dumurgier, Revolut’s CEO for Western Europe, told BFM TV: “If they ever have to change their ID documents, we’re taking care of the associated costs”. Reuters reported the statement on October 7, 2026. It applies to associated costs if an affected customer needs to change identity documents; it is not a general instruction for every Revolut customer to replace documents. Reuters
The report does not explain how a customer would request reimbursement, which documents or expenses qualify, whether costs already incurred are covered, or whether there is a cap or deadline. Cossa-Dumurgier said Revolut had assisted affected customers, but Reuters did not say that any customer had already changed documents or disclose the likely cost.
How many Revolut customers were affected?
Reuters reported that 680 Revolut customers were affected, including 55 in France. Separately, Italian Undersecretary Wanda Ferro told Parliament that eight affected customers were in Italy, according to Rai News. These figures come from different reports and are partial country details, not a complete geographic breakdown; they should not be added together to infer one.

What happened in the incident?
Reuters reported that Revolut sent personal data to attackers who had taken control of an email address associated with the Reggio Calabria police system in Italy. The incident was first disclosed in September 2026. Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi told lawmakers on September 30 that the address had never been used before, according to Reuters.
A record from Italy’s Chamber of Deputies describes false requests apparently sent from an account associated with the Reggio Calabria Prefecture. It says the Postal Police was investigating suspected unauthorised access to a computer system and computer fraud. Was Revolut itself hacked?
Revolut said its own systems and customer funds were unaffected. The company also said it blocked the email address and notified relevant authorities, law-enforcement agencies, data-protection bodies, and financial regulators after detecting the incident. Rai News reported that Italy’s National Cybersecurity Agency confirmed 680 affected Revolut customers. Its incident response team analysed a sample fraudulent email and confirmed compromise of an address associated with the Reggio Calabria Prefecture, according to Ferro’s statement. Rai News
What is not yet clear
- The reports do not provide an individual inventory of the information disclosed for each customer.
- They do not describe a document-replacement reimbursement procedure, eligible expenses, caps, or processing times.
- They do not provide a full breakdown of affected customers by country or a final independent technical account of the compromise.
For now, the reported commitment is specific to associated identity-document replacement costs when an affected customer needs to change documents. The Italian investigation was ongoing in the cited coverage, so findings about how the email account was accessed may change.
