Its defining upgrades are a color E Ink display and adjustable reading light; whether those justify the price depends on how much you value a dedicated writing and PDF workflow. The specifications and service details below come from reMarkable, not independent testing, so they establish what the company says the device can do rather than how it performs in everyday use.
What is the reMarkable Paper Pro?
Paper Pro is reMarkable’s largest color paper tablet, designed around handwriting, reading, organizing notes and reviewing documents. The manufacturer lists nine writing tools, templates, folders, tags and search, as well as handwriting-to-text conversion. It also supports sharing and works with companion apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android. That focus is both its appeal and its constraint. If your priority is a dedicated digital notebook with PDF and ebook workflows, its feature set is relevant. The company does not position it as a broad app tablet, and the supplied product information does not establish that it can replace one.
Does the Paper Pro have color?
Yes. The 11.8-inch Canvas Color display is based on E Ink Gallery 3, according to reMarkable. The company says the screen uses millions of color ink particles. Its writing-tools support page lists black, gray, white, blue, red, green, yellow, cyan and magenta, with orange and pink available for selected tools. The palette makes color markup and differentiated notes possible; it does not, by itself, show how vivid or accurate colors look, how quickly they refresh, or how comfortable the display is in different lighting.

For comparison, reMarkable says writing tools on reMarkable 1 and 2 appear on-device in black, gray or white. The company’s writing-tools color guide explains which colors are available on each model.
Display and hardware specifications
Paper Pro has a 4:3 display with 2160 × 1620 resolution and 229 pixels per inch. reMarkable Support publishes 12 ms latency and 4,096 pressure levels; those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of writing response or pen feel. The tablet also includes an adjustable reading light.

Notes and handwriting
The listed tools include templates, folders, tags and search, plus handwriting-to-text conversion. reMarkable identifies MyScript as the technology provider for conversion. The company also offers mobile and desktop apps for accessing and editing notes, with app features tied in part to Connect.

PDFs and ebooks
The tablet imports PDF and EPUB files. Its listed export formats are PDF, PNG and SVG, making PDF annotation and sharing the most clearly supported document path in the published format list. “Read on reMarkable” browser extensions are listed for Google Chrome and Microsoft Office.
Cloud sync and account terms
Cloud sync and companion-app access are linked to reMarkable’s Connect service. The product FAQ says that without an active subscription, cloud copies are retained only for files used and synced in the previous 50 days; it also says app note-taking and Protection Plan access are unavailable without a subscription. The FAQ describes a 50-day free trial for users who pair a device to an account without an active subscription. These are changeable service terms, so check the current product FAQ and Connect details before buying.

Battery life and security claims
reMarkable rates the battery for up to 14 days of regular use and up to 90 days in standby. Support also says charging from zero to 90% takes 90 minutes. These are manufacturer claims; no independent battery test is available here, and actual runtime will depend on use. The battery is charged over USB-C.
The manufacturer lists on-device and cloud encryption, encryption at rest and in transit, multifactor authentication, secure boot, an optional passcode and automatic locking after 20 minutes of inactivity. These describe the security features reMarkable says it provides; they are not an independent security assessment.

The US product page showed a starting price of $629 when accessed on October 8, 2026. It also displayed these configurations at that time:

Markers, folios and what is included
The manufacturer says the box includes a Marker or Marker Plus, six replacement tips and a USB-C charging cable; the exact included Marker depends on the configuration. Marker Plus has a built-in eraser. reMarkable says its Marker tips are carbon-filled and typically last a few months, which is guidance rather than a guaranteed replacement interval. The Book Folio is a protective cover offered in different finishes; reMarkable says it has a strap to hold the Marker. Type Folio is a keyboard cover for combining typing and handwriting on the same page. Confirm compatibility and what is included in the chosen configuration on the current product page before ordering.
Who should consider the Paper Pro?
- Consider it if you want a large dedicated surface for handwriting, color-coded notes, reading ebooks and annotating PDFs, and you are comfortable checking the service terms attached to cloud and app features.
- Think carefully if portability is a priority: the tablet weighs approximately 525 g before adding a folio.
- Look elsewhere or compare carefully if you need a general-purpose app tablet, or if color quality, refresh behavior, pen feel or real-world battery life will determine your purchase. Those qualities are not established by the published specifications alone.
This is not a comparative verdict: independent competitor testing and same-region total-price comparisons are not available here. The published evidence supports judging Paper Pro as a feature-focused writing and document device, not naming it the best tablet in its category.
