The Redmi Pad 2 9.7 is a sensible pick for casual games, video, and everyday use if you want a compact tablet with a high-refresh-rate screen at a low local price. It is not a strong choice for demanding games at high frame rates: Notebookcheck measured an average of 27.3fps in Genshin Impact at its lowest tested setting. The 120Hz display does not make games run at 120fps.
Is the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 good for gaming?
It is good enough for lighter games and more modest expectations, but its Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 processor and Adreno 610 graphics set a clear ceiling for demanding titles. Notebookcheck’s game test found an average of 57.6fps in Dead Trigger 2 and 47.6fps in PUBG Mobile. Those are results from that reviewer’s tested versions, settings, device conditions, and method—not a guarantee for every session or software update. Notebookcheck’s game test also found that the more demanding Genshin Impact was a much tougher workload.
The tablet’s strongest gaming argument is its compact 9.7-inch screen, not top-tier graphics performance. If you mostly play casual titles, stream media, browse, or want a smaller device, that balance may suit you. If high and consistent frame rates in demanding games are the priority, compare current game tests from more powerful tablets before buying.
Can the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 run Genshin Impact?
Yes, but expect compromises. In Notebookcheck’s test, Genshin Impact averaged 27.3fps at the lowest tested setting, with a reported range of 9–36fps. At the highest tested setting, it averaged 17fps, ranging from 5–19fps. Notebookcheck reported that the tablet did not reach 60fps in its test. Actual results can differ with game version, settings, thermals, software, and testing method.

These figures make the tablet a poor fit for someone who wants demanding games to feel consistently smooth. They are more useful as a performance indicator than as a promise about what every player will see.
Does 120Hz mean 120fps?
No. Refresh rate describes how often the screen can update; frames per second describes how many frames a game renders. Xiaomi lists a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz for supported apps and games, with actual experience depending on the app. A game must also be able to render frames at that rate, and the tablet’s hardware must keep up. The Genshin Impact results above illustrate why a 120Hz panel should not be read as a 120fps gaming guarantee. Xiaomi’s specifications identify the supported refresh rate and qualify its use.

What does the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 offer?
The Singapore specification page lists a 9.7-inch 16:10 display at 2048×1280, refresh up to 120Hz, touch sampling up to 180Hz, typical brightness of 500 nits, and 600 nits in outdoor mode. It lists a Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 processor built on a 6nm process, an eight-core CPU, and Adreno 610 graphics. The Wi-Fi model is listed at 406g. These are manufacturer specifications for the Singapore page; regional variants and bundles may differ. See Xiaomi’s full specifications.
- Memory and storage: Xiaomi Singapore lists 4GB+64GB and 4GB+128GB configurations, using LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.2 storage. Its product page advertises expansion up to 2TB. Check compatibility and card-format requirements for the exact local model. Extra storage can hold more games and media, but it does not increase game performance. Xiaomi’s product page describes the expansion feature.
- Battery and charging: Xiaomi lists a typical 7600mAh battery and 18W charging; the Singapore specification page lists a 15W adapter in the box. Regional bundles may differ, and Notebookcheck lists slow charging among its review’s drawbacks.
- Connectivity: The Singapore Wi-Fi specifications list Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0. Wi-Fi and 4G variants exist in some markets, but availability and network bands depend on the exact regional SKU.
Redmi Pad 2 9.7 vs. Redmi Pad 2: what is the difference?
These are distinct tablets, not two names for the same device. The Redmi Pad 2 9.7 is the compact model with a 9.7-inch screen and Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2. The larger 11-inch Redmi Pad 2 uses a MediaTek Helio G100 Ultra. Check the model name and screen size when comparing listings or buying a case. A case made for the 11-inch tablet should not be assumed to fit the 9.7-inch model.

NanoReview’s comparison indicates that the 9.7-inch model is more compact and has a higher refresh rate, while its aggregate performance and gaming scores are close. Those scores are not matched, controlled game tests, so they cannot establish which model delivers better results in a particular game. See the model comparison.
How should you compare it with other budget gaming tablets?
There is no supported universal winner across current budget tablets: game results, regional models, and prices are not established on a like-for-like basis here. Compare the exact tablets available where you live using evidence that matches your priorities, rather than treating a high refresh rate or a manufacturer’s gaming label as proof of faster gameplay.

The best choice depends on the games you play and the price and configuration available locally. For casual titles and a compact screen, the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 is a reasonable candidate if its tested performance fits your expectations. For demanding games, prioritize independent frame-rate tests for the exact alternative model and game rather than relying on general performance scores, marketing language, or refresh rate alone.

Should you buy the Redmi Pad 2 9.7?
- Consider it if you want a small tablet for casual gaming, media, and everyday tasks, and value the 120Hz screen and local price more than demanding-game performance.
- Look elsewhere if your main goal is smooth, high-frame-rate play in graphically demanding games. Compare tested game results and current local prices before choosing a stronger device.
Notebookcheck’s review identifies the tablet as an entry-level model and lists a sluggish system-on-chip and slow charging among its drawbacks. Its broader benchmark comparisons include other devices, but results from different tests do not create a reliable universal gaming ranking. Read Notebookcheck’s review.
Storage and case compatibility
A microSD card may be useful if you need room for large game downloads or offline media, but it will not make games run faster. Xiaomi advertises support for expansion up to 2TB; confirm the card and regional tablet model before purchasing.
Xiaomi presents a tri-fold protective case for this product. When buying a case from another seller, confirm that it explicitly names the Redmi Pad 2 9.7. The similar name of the 11-inch Redmi Pad 2 is not evidence that its case fits this smaller chassis. Xiaomi’s product page shows the case feature.
