Recorded Future’s 2023 generative AI rollout aimed to help threat-intelligence analysts make sense of large volumes of source material by summarizing it with context from the company’s Intelligence Graph. The company now describes a broader set of AI features, but its public product descriptions do not establish independent benchmark performance.

What Recorded Future reported in 2023

On April 11, 2023, CyberScoop reported that Recorded Future was rolling out a generative AI tool built on a fine-tuned OpenAI GPT model. The reported aim was to synthesize threat-intelligence data and help analysts spend less time reading source material.

The Intelligence Graph was central to that approach. CyberScoop described it as supplying context, including information about commonly exploited vulnerabilities and recent breaches, for summaries of relevant material. The idea was not simply to generate text, but to use the company’s intelligence data to help put information in context.

Recorded Future co-founder and CTO Staffan Truvé described the manual work the tool was intended to reduce: “This is something that for a human analyst can take several hours — reading all this material and then generating a summary,” he told CyberScoop. He also said, “As you move through the information, you now have someone summarizing it in real time.” These are the company executive’s descriptions of the intended assistance, not independent measurements of time saved.

How the company describes its AI platform now

Recorded Future’s current AI product page describes a wider set of capabilities than the 2023 rollout account. It names AI Sessions, AI Insights, AI Report Creation, and agents that route questions to tools and workflows. These are current vendor descriptions; they should not be read as independent validation of accuracy or effectiveness.

  • AI Sessions: An AI assistant experience for interacting with intelligence, according to Recorded Future.
  • AI Insights: AI-generated insights based on the company’s intelligence, as described by the vendor.
  • AI Report Creation: A feature the company says helps create reports.
  • Agents: Recorded Future describes agents that can route questions to tools and workflows.

The company’s Intelligence Platform page says its Intelligence Graph indexes, organizes, and analyzes data from over a million sources. That figure is Recorded Future’s claim; the page does not provide an independent audit of the source count.

What the 2023 testing account does—and does not—show

CyberScoop reported that Recorded Future used in-house analysts to test and verify the tool’s accuracy rather than relying on standard AI benchmarks at the time. That gives a picture of the company’s reported validation approach during the 2023 rollout, but it is not a published benchmark result.

Recorded Future announced on February 14, 2024 that Recorded Future AI was emerging from beta and generally available as an enterprise AI assistant for intelligence and defense. The announcement documents the company’s availability claim on that date; it is not independent product testing. The reviewed public descriptions do not establish current independent benchmark performance, nor do they specify current pricing, packaging, or who is eligible for access.

How its approach compared with Bloomberg’s in the 2023 report

CyberScoop framed Recorded Future and Bloomberg as examples of different strategies for building domain-specific AI products. The distinction was about model and data strategy, not a measured contest over which product performed better.

Dimension Recorded Future, as reported in 2023 Bloomberg, as described in the report
Model strategy Fine-tuned OpenAI GPT model Bespoke model
Domain context or data Connected to Recorded Future’s threat-intelligence graph Trained on financial data
Evidence described In-house analyst testing and accuracy verification; no standard AI benchmark approach was reported Not stated in the CyberScoop comparison

The comparison reflects CyberScoop’s April 2023 account, not a current head-to-head evaluation. It does not establish that either strategy produces more accurate or useful results.

What this means for security teams evaluating AI summaries

AI summaries can be useful as a way to navigate and condense threat information, but a summary should not replace analyst review when a decision depends on accuracy, provenance, or missing context. The 2023 reporting explains the intended workflow; the current product page describes vendor-stated capabilities. Neither source supplies independent performance evidence for current features.

  • Ask how generated statements connect to underlying intelligence and whether analysts can inspect the source material.
  • Evaluate accuracy on tasks and threat topics relevant to your own team, rather than treating feature descriptions as benchmark results.
  • Check current packaging, access, and data-handling terms directly with Recorded Future; the cited public pages do not establish those details.

Recorded Future’s partner routes are business channels

Recorded Future lists reseller, service-provider, OEM, and technology-alliance routes on its partner overview. Its value-added reseller program describes a partner model oriented toward security expertise and services, while its Global Tech Alliances Program addresses technology partnerships. These pages describe B2B partner paths; they do not establish publisher affiliate eligibility, referral commissions, or other publisher payment terms.
