There is no confirmed RDNA 5 gaming card to buy or compare yet. AMD’s architecture overview, reviewed as of October 30, 2026, still identifies RDNA 4 as its latest architecture and links it to the Radeon RX 9000 family. AMD has not established an RDNA 5 model list, specifications, benchmarks, price or launch date in the reviewed materials. So the useful buying guide is a checklist for judging a future card—plus clearly labeled RX 9000 examples you can evaluate now, without treating them as RDNA 5 stand-ins. AMD’s architecture overview
When real RDNA 5 cards are announced, start with game performance at your resolution and settings, then examine VRAM, ray tracing and supported rendering features, power and physical fit, and the price of the exact card available in your region. Do not use an unconfirmed specification or a single headline number as a substitute for those checks.
What should matter most in an RDNA 5 gaming GPU?
Judge a gaming GPU by whether it delivers the experience you want in the games you play—not by the biggest number on a specification sheet. A useful comparison starts with credible game results at your target resolution and quality settings, then checks memory, features, power, fit and local price. Until AMD publishes RDNA 5 models and independent results exist, those RDNA 5 cells are unknown, not estimates.
- Game performance in your games: compare results at the resolution, graphics preset and refresh target you actually use.
- Rendering mode: keep native rendering, ray tracing, upscaling and generated frames distinct.
- Memory configuration: examine VRAM capacity alongside the memory interface and the rest of the memory subsystem.
- Whole-system fit: confirm the specific board’s power requirements, connectors, dimensions and display outputs against your PC and monitor.
- Real purchase value: compare current prices and availability for the exact card, not a historical suggested price or rumor.
These checks are useful for any future GPU generation. They also explain why no single count—compute units, clock speed, memory capacity or bus width—can establish whether an unannounced card is a good buy.

Is RDNA 5 out yet?
No RDNA 5 gaming card, confirmed specification sheet, benchmark, price or release date is established by the AMD materials reviewed as of October 30, 2026. AMD’s architecture overview identifies RDNA 4 as its latest architecture and associates it with the Radeon RX 9000 family.
That is a statement about what the reviewed official material establishes, not a prediction about when AMD might make an announcement. Do not treat an alleged model name, clock speed, memory type, performance uplift or launch window as a buying fact unless AMD publishes it. Even after a product announcement, a specification sheet is not a substitute for independent game benchmarks: it cannot by itself tell you the card’s frame rates, frame-time behavior, value or performance in the games you care about.
For a future RDNA 5 comparison, record the exact GPU and board-partner SKU, the date and region of the listing, and whether each result is measured at native resolution, with ray tracing, or with a particular FSR feature enabled. Until there are real specifications, mark those fields unknown rather than filling them with rumors or extrapolations from RDNA 4.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteHow should I compare gaming performance?
Use results that match your games, resolution and settings, and compare like with like. AMD’s published Radeon results identify particular games, settings, test systems and drivers; those details matter because a result is meaningful only in its stated conditions. AMD’s Radeon product and results pages are a source of vendor-published information, but vendor figures should be read as the vendor’s figures—not as independent testing.
For an independent comparison, look for a named reviewer’s repeatable results and note the test conditions. Prefer several games that represent what you play over one unusually favorable title. Check the exact card, processor, driver, game version, resolution, quality preset and rendering mode in the test notes. A 1440p result at one preset does not establish what a card will do at 4K, at a different preset, or in another game. Likewise, a frame-rate average alone may conceal uneven delivery; frame-time behavior can help show whether play feels consistent.
Do not combine four different kinds of performance
- Native rasterization: the game is rendered at the selected output resolution without ray tracing or an upscaling mode. This is a useful baseline for conventional rendering, but it is not the only workload a buyer may care about.
- Ray-traced performance: results depend on the game and its ray-tracing implementation. Compare a result with ray tracing enabled against another result with the same game, settings and feature state.
- Upscaled performance: an upscaler renders from a lower internal resolution and reconstructs the output image. Record the particular FSR version and mode; do not compare it as if it were native rendering.
- Generated-frame performance: frame generation creates additional displayed frames. Keep this figure separate from the rate of frames rendered directly by the game; the two are not interchangeable measures of native rendering performance.
AMD’s own materials distinguish these techniques and report results in specific game and test conditions. When a future RDNA 5 comparison arrives, ask whether a quoted number is native FPS, ray-traced FPS, upscaled FPS or a frame-generation figure before using it to rank cards.

How much VRAM do I need, and does bus width matter?
There is no universal VRAM minimum established by the AMD examples here. Capacity is one part of the memory configuration, and what is appropriate depends on the games, resolution, texture settings and other workloads you expect the card to handle. Check the actual capacity of each SKU rather than relying on a family name: even two versions of one current model can differ.

AMD’s documented RX 9000 examples illustrate why memory capacity and interface should be read together:
| Current AMD example (not RDNA 5) | Compute units | Memory | Interface | AMD-listed board power |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Radeon RX 9070 XT | 64 | 16GB GDDR6 | 256-bit | 304W total board power |
| Radeon RX 9070 | 56 | 16GB GDDR6 | 256-bit | 220W total board power |
| Radeon RX 9070 GRE | 48 | 12GB | 192-bit | 220W typical board power |
| Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB | 32 | 8GB | 128-bit | 150W starting board power |
| Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB | 32 | 16GB | 128-bit | 160W starting board power |
These are current RDNA 4 products, not recommendations for RDNA 5. The figures come from AMD’s February 2025 RX 9070-series announcement, May 2025 RX 9060 XT announcement, and May 2026 RX 9070 GRE announcement and product specifications. AMD uses different power descriptions in these materials—total board power, typical board power and starting board power—so do not treat the labels as identical measurement claims.
The RX 9060 XT pair makes the practical point: both have 32 compute units and a 128-bit interface, but one version has 8GB and the other 16GB. The RX 9070 GRE has 12GB on a 192-bit interface, while the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT have 16GB on a 256-bit interface. Those specifications describe configurations; they do not, by themselves, prove how many frames a game will render. Bus width alone is not a ranking system, and the available data does not establish a universal capacity threshold.
For RDNA 5, check the exact model’s capacity and full memory specification, then look for game results that demonstrate how it performs in the titles and settings you use. Do not infer FPS from bus width, and do not assume every card bearing the same family name has the same VRAM. Confirm whether a listing is for an 8GB or 16GB variant before comparing price or performance.

Compare actual results in supported games and note exactly which feature is enabled. An architectural improvement in ray-tracing throughput is not the same thing as a guaranteed uplift in game FPS, and an FSR feature’s availability does not mean every GPU, game or implementation behaves identically.

AMD says RDNA 4 provides two times the ray-tracing throughput of the previous generation in its architecture comparison. That is an architectural comparison, not an RDNA 5 result, not a game benchmark and not a promise of double the frame rate. AMD’s footnote dates the underlying architecture-specification comparison to 2024. For buying decisions, use game-specific results with the ray-tracing setting and test conditions stated.
FSR information also needs a date and a feature name. AMD’s February 2025 RX 9000 launch release described FSR 4 as exclusive to RX 9000 at launch. In its October 20, 2026 announcement, AMD said FSR Upscaling 4.1 had reached RX 7000 in July 2026 and was expanding to RX 6000 via Adrenalin 26.10.1. That update concerns Upscaling 4.1. It does not establish that every FSR feature, every Redstone feature, every game implementation or performance level is identical across those GPU families. See AMD’s October 2026 FSR announcement and its developer material.
When assessing a future card, check the feature name and version, the supported game list, the specific mode used in the benchmark, and whether a result includes upscaling or generated frames. Those details can change the comparison more than a broad label such as “FSR support.” Recheck compatibility near purchase time: software and game support can change after a card’s initial launch.
How do I know whether the GPU will fit my PC?
Check the exact board-partner card against your case, power supply and monitor. A GPU family specification does not tell you the dimensions, slot thickness or connector arrangement of every partner model, and the card’s power figure is not by itself a complete PSU recommendation.
- Find the precise card listing. Match the manufacturer, model and SKU; partner cards can differ from reference specifications.
- Check physical clearance. Compare the card’s listed length and slot thickness with the space available in the case, including any relevant obstruction from other components. Use the manufacturer’s dimensions for that exact card.
- Verify power connections and guidance. Read the board maker’s connector and PSU requirements, and check that the PSU has the required connectors. Do not treat a board-power figure as a universal PSU size for every system.
- Confirm monitor connections. Match the card’s listed display outputs to the monitor input you plan to use, and verify support for the resolution and refresh rate you want.
- Check the whole build. AMD’s reference power figure and a partner card’s recommendation are not interchangeable; account for the exact model and the system it will be installed in.
AMD lists 304W total board power for the RX 9070 XT and 220W for the RX 9070 in its 2025 reference table. Its RX 9070 GRE product specification lists 220W typical board power and a 650W minimum PSU recommendation. These are model-specific RDNA 4 figures, not requirements for a future RDNA 5 card or a universal PSU rule. AMD directs buyers to each manufacturer for comprehensive partner-card specifications. Check AMD’s product information, then consult the manufacturer page for the specific board you plan to buy.
Should I wait for RDNA 5 or buy an RX 9000 card?
There is no evidence-based way to compare an unannounced RDNA 5 card with a card you can evaluate now. If you need a GPU now, compare actual current listings and credible results for the exact RX 9000 SKU in your games, then decide whether its price, performance and fit make sense for your build. If you can wait, wait for confirmed RDNA 5 models and comparable game results—not for a presumed launch date or rumored uplift.

AMD’s original US suggested prices offer historical context, not a live-price verdict. The February 2025 launch table listed suggested prices of $599 for the RX 9070 XT and $549 for the RX 9070. AMD’s May 2025 RX 9060 XT announcement listed original US suggested prices of $299 for the 8GB model and $349 for the 16GB model. Those suggestions should not be mistaken for current retail prices or proof of value in your region. The relevant comparison is the price and availability of the exact card you can actually buy, alongside results for your games and the rest of its specifications.
AMD lists Amazon, Best Buy, Micro Center and Newegg among its US Radeon retailers, but a retailer directory does not establish current inventory or prices. Check the seller, region, exact capacity and model, and the live listing at the time you buy. The RX 9070 GRE’s May 2026 announcement describes a global rollout, but that does not guarantee a particular local seller has it in stock; check the actual regional listing.
What should a proper RDNA 5 comparison include?
Once AMD publishes real models, compare cards using evidence that connects specifications to the way you play. A useful checklist is broader than core counts or a single FPS chart:
- Identity: exact GPU, board-partner SKU and memory variant.
- Games and conditions: independent results for relevant titles, with resolution, preset, CPU, driver and game version disclosed.
- Separate rendering modes: native rasterization, ray tracing, upscaling and frame generation shown separately, including the feature version and mode.
- Consistency: frame-time behavior as well as averages, where the reviewer publishes it.
- Memory: VRAM capacity and the full memory configuration, not capacity or bus width in isolation.
- Power and fit: measured gaming power where available, partner-card dimensions, slot thickness, connectors and PSU guidance.
- Display and creator needs: supported monitor outputs and relevant encoding features, verified against the model’s official specifications.
- Practical ownership: supported software features and games, warranty terms, local price, seller and availability.
Clock speed, compute-unit count, AI marketing figures, process node or a rumored memory type such as GDDR7 may describe aspects of a chip, but none alone determines cross-generation gaming value. AMD’s current RX 9000 specifications illustrate that cards in one generation can differ in memory, power and positioning. Until a future model has published specifications and credible game results, the honest comparison is an incomplete one.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should I use the current RX 9000 cards as reference points?
Use them to understand the kinds of trade-offs a buyer may need to check, not to predict RDNA 5 performance. The RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 both list 16GB GDDR6 and a 256-bit interface, but AMD’s 2025 reference table lists 304W and 220W total board power respectively. That makes power an important part of comparing these two current cards even though their memory capacity and interface match.

The RX 9060 XT versions make model naming worth checking closely: the 8GB and 16GB variants share a 128-bit interface and 32 compute units but differ in capacity and their starting board-power figures. The RX 9070 GRE adds another configuration: AMD’s May 2026 announcement cites 48 compute units and 12GB, while its product page specifies a 192-bit interface, 220W typical board power and a 650W minimum PSU recommendation. These are concrete product facts—not a hierarchy that can be carried over to a different generation.

For a purchase today, find the full card name and memory variant in the listing, compare the live price with results from relevant games, and verify the partner board’s dimensions, connectors and PSU guidance. AMD’s launch suggestions can help identify original positioning, but they cannot answer whether a current listing is a good deal. For a future RDNA 5 purchase, repeat the same process only after real cards, specifications and comparable game results are available.
How we picked the specifications that matter
This guide prioritizes the checks that determine whether a GPU suits an actual gaming setup: game performance at relevant settings; clearly separated native, ray-traced, upscaled and generated-frame results; the complete memory configuration; supported features; power, connectors and physical fit; and the live price and availability of the exact SKU. AMD’s current RX 9000 products provide examples of documented differences, while official architecture and feature announcements clarify what is and is not established. No RDNA 5 specifications or performance figures have been inferred.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an announced global rollout mean the RX 9070 GRE is in stock where I live?
No. AMD’s May 2026 announcement describes a global rollout, but a rollout announcement does not confirm local inventory, a local price or availability from a particular seller. Check the exact regional listing before planning a build around it.
Can compute-unit counts tell me which generation is faster?
Not on their own. Compute-unit counts describe one part of a GPU, but they do not establish gaming performance across different architectures, games or rendering modes; use comparable game results for the workloads you care about.
Does a 650W PSU recommendation mean every RX 9070 GRE system needs exactly 650W?
AMD lists 650W as the minimum PSU recommendation for the RX 9070 GRE, not as a universal specification for every graphics card or PC. Check the exact card maker’s guidance and connector requirements for your build.
Can I compare a generated-frame FPS result directly with native FPS?
No. Generated-frame figures include frames created by a feature rather than rendered directly by the game, so they are not the same measure as native rendering performance. Compare results only when the rendering mode and settings are clearly identified.
