The Razer BlackWidow V4 75% is a wired mechanical gaming keyboard that keeps a function row, arrow keys, and several navigation keys while taking up less desk width than a full-size board. Its strongest practical draw is hot-swap support for most standard 3-pin and 5-pin mechanical switches, alongside RGB lighting and a maximum polling specification of 8,000 Hz. Its main compromises are wired-only connectivity and the lack of a number pad. Razer also lists a barebones edition that excludes switches, keycaps, and a wrist rest, so check the exact version before buying.
What the BlackWidow V4 75% offers
This is a compact 75% layout rather than a tenkeyless board: it retains a function row and arrow keys, as well as Delete, Page Up, Page Down, and Insert, but has no numeric keypad. Razer lists a detachable Type-C connection; the keyboard is wired, not wireless. The 75% layout and wired-only status are also noted in reviews from RTINGS and Tom’s Hardware.
Razer specifies N-key rollover, anti-ghosting, RGB lighting, and polling up to 8,000 Hz. That polling figure is a manufacturer-listed maximum, not a guarantee that every user or game will show a noticeable benefit. The top case is 5052 aluminum alloy and the bottom is ABS plastic, according to Razer’s product specifications.
Typing feel, sound, and construction
Orange tactile switches
The standard configuration reviewed by Tom’s Hardware used Razer’s third-generation Orange tactile switches. That reviewer described a mild tactile bump and relatively quiet operation. The review lists 50 g actuation force, a 2 mm actuation point, 3.5 mm total travel, and a 100-million-keystroke rating for that switch configuration; the rating is a stated specification, not an independently verified lifespan test.

Acoustic design and reviewer impressions
Razer describes a tape-enhanced PCB and a plate suspended on poron gaskets, saying the gasket mount gives a lighter keystroke feel and reduces metallic pinging. Tom’s Hardware describes two layers of dampening foam and found the typing feel springy and quiet. These are manufacturer design claims and one reviewer’s impressions, not a promise that every setup will sound the same. That reviewer also heard stabilizer rattle, particularly on Enter and Backspace, despite factory-lubed stabilizers.
Tom’s Hardware identifies the included caps as double-shot ABS and cautions that ABS may develop shine with use, drawing in part on the author’s previous Razer-keyboard experience. This is not a controlled durability finding for every BlackWidow V4 75% unit.

Hot-swapping and editions: check what is in the box
Razer says most standard 3-pin and 5-pin mechanical switches are compatible, and its complete configuration includes a 2-in-1 keycap and switch puller so switches can be changed without soldering. Razer separately identifies Green Clicky and Yellow Linear Gen-3 switches as options. Confirm switch feel and pin configuration before ordering, and check the exact product listing: the current page also lists a barebones version without switches, keycaps, or wrist rest. Razer names its Phantom Keycap Upgrade Set as compatible; verify layout and legends for any particular set.
Razer states that warranty coverage does not extend to internal damage caused by modifications. Read the terms for your region and product before modifying the keyboard; Razer’s BlackWidow V4 75% support page is the appropriate place to check current support information.

Multiple-input reports: what Razer has said
Razer Support’s historical community update said reports of multiple inputs on select BlackWidow V4 75% units were isolated to a particular batch of Gen-3 Orange tactile switches. Razer said affected customers were offered a complimentary pack of 36 updated switches. That statement does not establish how common the issue was, show that every unit was affected, or guarantee that all current units are issue-free. It also does not establish that replacement switches remain available or that a buyer is eligible today. If your keyboard repeats or registers unintended inputs, contact Razer support with your unit and region details. The original update is available in Razer Support’s community post.

The right comparison depends on what you need from the layout and connection. RTINGS contrasts the wired BlackWidow V4 75% with the wireless ASUS ROG Azoth, and with the larger full-size BlackWidow V4. These are different trade-offs, not a universal ranking. Do not confuse this model with the BlackWidow V4 Pro 75%, which is a separate product.

| What matters | BlackWidow V4 75% | What to compare elsewhere |
|---|---|---|
| Desk footprint and layout | 75% layout with function row, arrows, and selected navigation keys; no number pad. | Choose full-size if you need a dedicated number pad, or compare other compact layouts for key placement and controls. |
| Connection | Wired USB-C with detachable Type-C cable. | Consider a wireless model such as the ASUS ROG Azoth if wireless operation is essential. |
| Switch customization | Hot-swappable with most standard 3-pin or 5-pin mechanical switches, according to Razer. | Check whether a competing keyboard supports hot-swapping and which switches it includes. |
| Controls and features | RGB, media keys, and a volume roller are reported by Tom’s Hardware. | Compare dedicated macro and media controls if those matter to your workflow; the full-size BlackWidow V4 is a larger same-family alternative. |
| Price and package | No current street price or inventory status is established here; the barebones edition omits switches, keycaps, and wrist rest. | Compare current regional prices and the included accessories, not just the model name. |

Who should buy it?
- Consider it if you want a compact wired gaming keyboard with arrows and common navigation keys, RGB, tactile stock switches, and straightforward switch replacement without soldering.
- Look elsewhere if wireless use or a number pad is a requirement, or if you want more dedicated controls than this compact layout provides.
- Check the listing carefully if buying barebones: you will need to source compatible switches and keycaps, and the wrist rest is not included.
- Compare current offers and contents before deciding; a historical MSRP is not a current price quote.
