If walking directions are your priority, distinguish spoken guidance from visual, in-lens prompts—and separate products on sale from prototypes and future announcements. As of October 7, 2026, Google’s Android XR audio glasses were announced for later in fall 2026, while Meta said pedestrian navigation was coming soon to its displayless glasses.
Which alternative is available now?
Rokid AI Glasses Style
Tom’s Guide reviewed the Rokid AI Glasses Style as a Ray-Ban Meta alternative. The review describes its battery performance favorably, while noting construction that feels less robust and the absence of a feature that hands a video call off to the glasses’ camera. Those observations make it a relevant product to compare, but they do not establish how well it provides walking directions—or whether it offers navigation comparable to Meta’s. See Tom’s Guide’s Rokid AI Glasses Style review.
Check current availability and the exact model generation in your market before buying. The available review evidence does not settle current stock, prescription-lens choices, or navigation performance.
How the navigation options differ
For navigation, the key distinction is not just whether glasses can help, but how they deliver guidance and whether the feature is available in a retail product. Spoken directions can keep the lens clear; a display can show glanceable visual prompts. A prototype demonstration or a feature announced as coming soon is not equivalent to a product you can use today.

| Product or platform | What the cited source establishes | Status and relevance |
|---|---|---|
| Rokid AI Glasses Style | Tom’s Guide reviewed it as a Ray-Ban Meta alternative and discussed battery performance, build, and video-call camera handoff. The cited review does not establish navigation behavior. (Tom’s Guide) | Reviewed alternative; navigation parity is unproven. |
| Google Android XR audio glasses | Google announced glasses with spoken Gemini help and hands-free calls, texts, and music, with Samsung, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker named. (Google, 2026) | Announced for later in fall 2026; the announcement is a release window, not confirmation of retail availability. |
| Google Android XR glasses prototype | Google demonstrated turn-by-turn directions and nearby points of interest on a prototype platform described as including a camera, microphones, speakers, and an optional in-lens display. (Google, 2025) | Prototype context, not proof that a specific retail model has these features. |
| Meta Ray-Ban Display | Meta describes guided walking navigation and an in-lens visual interface. (Meta, May 2026) | Meta reference point for visual prompts, not an independent alternative. |
| Displayless Meta glasses | Meta describes open-ear speakers and says pedestrian navigation is coming soon. (Meta, June 2026) | Navigation was described as forthcoming, not as an already available feature in that announcement. |
Google’s 2025 demonstration indicates what Android XR glasses might do, but it does not establish that a retail product is available with those directions. Likewise, Meta’s June 2026 announcement used future-tense wording for pedestrian navigation on displayless glasses. For a purchase decision, confirm the feature on the exact model, in your region, and with its required phone or app.
Choose between spoken directions and a display
Spoken guidance
Audio-first glasses can deliver directions, assistant responses, calls, or music without putting text or arrows in the lens. That may suit people who do not want a visual overlay, but a manufacturer announcement of spoken assistance does not by itself confirm turn-by-turn walking navigation. Google’s announcement describes spoken Gemini help for its forthcoming audio glasses; it does not establish a currently retail product with a confirmed navigation feature.

Visual prompts
Meta says Ray-Ban Display offers guided walking navigation through an in-lens interface. Visual guidance can make a turn prompt glanceable, but it is a different experience from audio directions and is available on a specific Meta product—not evidence that displayless glasses or other brands provide the same feature. See Meta’s product-selection guide for its description.
Questions to check before choosing
- Does the exact product support pedestrian turn-by-turn directions, or only general assistant answers and audio?
- Are prompts spoken, shown in the lens, or both?
- Is the feature available now in your country, or merely demonstrated or announced?
- Which phone, app, account, or connected service does the feature require?
- Do you want a camera, or would camera-free audio glasses better fit your needs?
- Are the frame fit, prescription lenses, and privacy controls appropriate for your use? The sources cited here do not provide a comparable assessment across products.
Audio-first glasses and battery claims
Ray-Ban Meta Audio is a camera-free Meta product, so it is an audio-first comparison point rather than an alternative brand. In its September 2026 announcement, Meta claimed up to 12 hours of use on one charge and up to 48 additional hours from the charging case. Meta also announced a $349 USD starting preorder price and shipping for October 13, 2026; that announced shipping date was still in the future on October 7, 2026. These are company claims and announced terms, not independent test results. Check Meta’s announcement for current availability and details.

Battery figures across different products are not directly comparable here: the sources do not provide a common test or controlled cross-product benchmark. Rokid’s favorable battery description comes from a review, while Meta’s Audio duration is a manufacturer-stated maximum. Treat each figure according to its source and conditions rather than as a head-to-head result.
What to expect from Google Android XR
Google’s 2026 announcement describes audio glasses with spoken Gemini help and hands-free calls, texts, and music as coming later in fall 2026. It names Samsung, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker as partners, but a partner announcement does not confirm a particular model’s final specifications, retail date, regional availability, or navigation features. The separate 2025 Android XR announcement demonstrated turn-by-turn directions and nearby points of interest on a prototype; it should not be treated as confirmation those capabilities will ship in the announced audio glasses.

Google framed the product categories this way: “There will be two types of intelligent eyewear: audio glasses that offer spoken help in your ear, and display glasses that show you the information you need, right when you need it.” This is Google’s product positioning, not an independent comparison. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Bottom line for buyers
Rokid AI Glasses Style is the clearest named non-Meta option in the available review evidence, but its navigation capability is not established by that review. If visual walking prompts are essential, Meta’s Ray-Ban Display is the specifically described reference point; if you want audio-first glasses, compare the exact navigation feature and retail status rather than assuming spoken assistant help means turn-by-turn directions. Treat Google’s Android XR products as forthcoming or prototype-based unless a partner confirms a retail model and its final features in your market.
