Its headline camera resolution remains 12 MP with 3K video, so the published specifications do not show a clear resolution leap. One naming point matters: Nova is a style in Meta’s separate Meta Glasses collection, not a Ray-Ban Meta generation. Meta’s September 2026 announcement lists Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 styles as Aviator, Zena and Wayfarer, while Nova and Capri belong to the separate collection. This comparison is about Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 versus Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2.
What changed between Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 and Gen 3?
The main differences are battery claims, microphone count, controls, fit details and frame selection. The published headline camera resolution is similar, and Gen 2 already offered 3K video. The table compares the two generations using Meta’s September 2025 and September 2026 announcements and Ray-Ban’s current US specifications page.

Battery figures are manufacturer claims, not guaranteed runtimes; actual use can vary. The quoted starting prices are US announcement prices from different years, not a like-for-like statement of current prices. Check local availability and current pricing before buying.
Is Gen 3’s camera a major upgrade?
Not on headline resolution alone. Meta announced 3K Ultra HD video for Gen 2 in 2025, and Gen 3 retains 3K with a 12 MP ultra-wide camera. Ray-Ban’s Gen 3 specifications give more detail on recording choices: 3K at 30 frames per second, 1080p+ at 30 or 60 fps, and 720p+ at 120 fps. Those options let buyers weigh resolution against frame rate, but they do not make Gen 3 the first generation with 3K capture.

Ray-Ban also lists stabilization and capture modes for Gen 3. The cited information does not establish a tested, across-the-board image-quality improvement over Gen 2, so camera resolution and mode lists alone are not proof that existing owners will get better-looking footage.
What do the extra microphone and action button change?
Microphones
Gen 3 moves from Gen 2’s five microphones to six. Meta says the new array reduces background noise by more than 90% to improve calls and voice commands, including in windy or crowded places. That percentage is Meta’s product claim; the cited comparison does not include an independent test verifying it. The extra microphone is a concrete specification change, but it does not by itself establish how much better calls will sound in everyday use.

Gen 3 adds a customizable action button that Meta describes as providing quick access to Meta AI. It sits alongside the capture control, giving the newer model a dedicated control that owners can assign rather than relying only on the existing capture and touch controls. The available comparison does not quantify how much faster or more convenient it is in practice.
Are Gen 3’s fit and styles different?
Meta describes Gen 3 as slimmer and introduces professionally adjustable temple tips intended to improve fit. Those are design changes, not independent evidence that the glasses will feel more comfortable for every wearer. Fit is personal, so try the specific frame if possible—particularly if you plan to wear the glasses for long periods or need prescription lenses.

The announced frame lineups also differ: Gen 2 included Wayfarer, Skyler and Headliner; Gen 3’s announcement names Aviator, Zena and Wayfarer. Not every style or lens option is necessarily available in every market. Ray-Ban says its styles can be fitted with prescription lenses and points customers to in-store fitting and certified dealers on its US product page; check local options for the frame you want.

For most Gen 2 owners, the published specifications alone do not make an urgent upgrade case. TechRadar’s September 24, 2026 comparison characterizes the differences as specification-based rather than the result of testing and notes that core camera headlines and general features are similar. TechRadar’s comparison is useful context, but it is not evidence of measured real-world performance differences.

Gen 3 is more compelling if…
- You regularly run short on battery and value Meta’s claimed one-hour increase.
- You want the additional microphone or want to try Meta’s claimed background-noise reduction.
- A customizable action button or professionally adjustable temple tips appeals to you.
- You prefer one of the announced Gen 3 styles and can find it with the frame and lens options you need.
Keeping Gen 2 makes sense if…
- Your glasses meet your battery needs and you are satisfied with their controls and fit.
- Your main reason to switch is the headline camera resolution: Gen 2 already launched with 3K video.
- The announced Gen 3 starting price does not justify the specification changes for your use.
Compare current local prices and availability before deciding: the $379 Gen 2 and $449 Gen 3 figures are US launch and announcement starting prices from September 2025 and September 2026, respectively, not guaranteed current retail prices.
