For most beginners, Swordsman is the safest first class in Ragnarok: Twilight Global thanks to its durability and forgiving solo progression. Archer is a better fit for ranged boss damage, Mage for clearing groups, Thief for mobile burst play, and Acolyte for healing and party support. There is no official or universally agreed best-class ranking: third-party lists differ, and the right pick depends on how you want to play.
What is the best class in Ragnarok: Twilight Global?
Swordsman is the most consistent top-ranked class across three recent editorial tier lists, making it the most dependable general recommendation. That does not mean it is objectively strongest in every activity. The guides use different criteria, and none presents its ranking as an official developer balance list or a measured performance result.
The table compares the lists by class. Pocket Gamer’s ranking is dated September 18, 2026 and identifies version 1.0.5; UrGameTips’ list is dated September 1, 2026. BlueStacks’ guide was reviewed on October 4, 2026, but its publication date is not stated.
| Class | Pocket Gamer | BlueStacks | UrGameTips | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Swordsman | S | S | S | Durable frontline play, beginners, and solo progression |
| Archer | A | S | A | Ranged physical damage and boss or single-target focus |
| Mage | A | A | A | Elemental area damage and clearing groups |
| Thief | B | A | B | Fast, mobile burst melee |
| Acolyte | C | B | C | Healing, buffs, and party support |
Pocket Gamer describes its list as a subjective, utility-based ranking and says class choice does not make or break this automatic-questing idle RPG. BlueStacks considers a mix of PvE, boss hunting, farming, PvP, group value, and beginner-friendliness. The difference in placements—especially for Archer, Thief, and Acolyte—is a reason to choose by role rather than treating a letter grade as a universal measure. See the Pocket Gamer tier list, BlueStacks class guide, and UrGameTips tier list.

Which class is best for beginners or solo idle progression?
Swordsman: the forgiving first pick
Choose Swordsman if you want a durable character and a straightforward start, particularly if you expect to rely on unattended or automatic progression. Pocket Gamer highlights its survivability for auto-play, while BlueStacks emphasizes its high HP and defense. It is the clearest recommendation for a player who has not settled on a narrower role.
Which class should you choose for your playstyle?
Archer: ranged damage and boss focus
Archer suits players who want to deal physical damage from range, especially against bosses and other single targets. BlueStacks praises its sustained ranged damage and boss performance; Pocket Gamer calls out the Sniper path’s boss and MVP damage. If boss-focused damage is your priority, Archer is a more targeted choice than the all-purpose beginner recommendation.

- RISE TO POWER: Will your faction ascend to rule the galaxy, or will your empire be lost to the annals of history? The fate of the stars is in your hands.
Mage: area damage and mob clearing
Mage is the natural fit for clearing groups of enemies with elemental attacks and area damage. Pocket Gamer points to crowd control and wave clearing during mob-heavy automatic quests, and BlueStacks also emphasizes its AoE strengths. The trade-off identified by BlueStacks is lower defense, so Mage is less forgiving if you prefer a durable character.
Thief: mobile, aggressive burst
Thief is for players who value speed, mobility, and burst melee damage. Its lower overall placement in two of the three lists does not erase that niche. BlueStacks notes lower defenses and greater gear dependence, while Pocket Gamer says Thief has a harder time with solo auto-combat against groups. Pick it for the fast, aggressive style rather than because it is the safest first character.

Acolyte: healing and party support
Acolyte is the support-oriented option, with healing and buffs that can benefit a group. Its C placement in Pocket Gamer and UrGameTips reflects its weaker showing for solo progression, not an absence of party value: BlueStacks describes its usefulness in group content. If you mainly want to support teammates, a low solo tier should not rule it out.
Is Mage difficult to play?
The available class guides identify Mage’s lower defenses as a trade-off, but do not establish a definitive difficulty rating or a specific mechanical skill requirement. Its area damage and crowd control make it a clear choice for group clearing; the more relevant question is whether you are comfortable with a less durable character than Swordsman.

Should you choose Thief as your first class?
Choose Thief first if mobile burst melee is the playstyle you want and you accept the greater gear and survivability trade-offs described by the guides. If your priority is a forgiving start, Swordsman is better supported as the beginner recommendation. These are role-based judgments, not guarantees about how an individual character will perform.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Acolyte worth playing?
Yes, if healing and party support are what you want from a character. The lower solo rankings do not measure the full value of support in group play, and BlueStacks specifically identifies Acolyte’s healing and buffs as group strengths.
