Short answer: the Radeon 890M can match or beat a GTX 1650 in some games, but it is not a dependable across-the-board replacement. In one 10-game comparison, results ranged from near-parity to a clear 890M lead; separate testing found the GTX 1650 ahead overall. The 890M is most compelling for efficient play at 720p to 1080p with tuned settings, while the GTX 1650 is the safer choice when you want sustained native-1080p performance.

What the 10-game comparison tested

The primary comparison captured gameplay at 1080p on two complete systems, not on identical test benches. The Radeon 890M system was an ASUS Vivobook S16 M5606WA with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, 32GB LPDDR5X-7500 and AMD driver 24.7.1. The GTX 1650 system used a desktop Ryzen 7 5800X3D, a Gainward GeForce GTX 1650 with 4GB of dedicated VRAM, 32GB DDR4-4000 and NVIDIA driver 560.81. The benchmark description identifies Elgato capture and lists game presets and scaling.

That distinction matters: the comparison reflects each system as configured, not the GPU in isolation. The 890M had very fast shared memory and a modern laptop CPU; the desktop GTX 1650 had dedicated VRAM and more room for sustained power. Laptop cooling, firmware, memory configuration, drivers and game updates can all shift results.

Game Primary test setting Reported comparison
Devil May Cry 5 1080p High The GPUs were generally close, with occasional swings of about 5–10 FPS; the reported summary does not establish a consistent winner.
God of War 1080p Original Performance was described as very similar.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice 1080p High Notebookcheck reported an approximately 10-FPS 890M lead in the cited run.
Cyberpunk 2077 1080p Low Notebookcheck reported up to 45% higher performance for the 890M in the cited comparison. This is a result for that run and setting, not a general uplift across games.
Resident Evil 6 1080p Max Included in the test; a specific comparative result is not stated in the published text.
RoboCop: Rogue City 1080p, 85% resolution scaling, Low The 890M stayed above 30 FPS, while the GTX 1650 fell as low as about 20 FPS in the cited run.
The First Descendant 1080p Medium The primary comparison and follow-up reporting describe the 890M as similar or roughly 10% ahead in portions of the test.
Forza Horizon 5 1080p High, ray tracing off The 890M was ahead in the cited run.
Tomb Raider (2013) 1080p Max Included in the test; a specific comparative result is not stated in the published text.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider 1080p High The 890M was ahead in the cited run.

These results support game-dependent parity, not a universal ranking. A win in one title or preset does not establish how the GPUs will compare in a different game, at a different quality level or after a game update.

How a separate 10-game test compares

A separate 2026 comparison reported these representative averages under its own practical settings. They are useful as another data point, not as extra results from the ASUS-versus-desktop test above; the platforms and settings differ.

Game Radeon 890M average GTX 1650 average
Cyberpunk 2077 38 FPS 54 FPS
Starfield 31 FPS 42 FPS
Forza Horizon 5 58 FPS 72 FPS
Shadow of the Tomb Raider 64 FPS 82 FPS
Red Dead Redemption 2 43 FPS 59 FPS
Hogwarts Legacy 36 FPS 48 FPS
Fortnite 118 FPS 142 FPS
Counter-Strike 2 103 FPS 136 FPS
Apex Legends 74 FPS 96 FPS
Baldur’s Gate 3 61 FPS 76 FPS
Reported overall average About 63 FPS About 81 FPS

In that comparison, the GTX 1650 led by roughly 25–30% overall. The average belongs to that test’s game mix and settings; it should not be combined with the primary test’s qualitative results or treated as a universal performance ratio.

Why the results vary

Shared memory versus dedicated VRAM

The 890M is an integrated RDNA 3.5 GPU with 16 compute units. It has no dedicated graphics memory: it uses system RAM, so its performance depends in part on memory bandwidth and configuration. The tested system’s 32GB LPDDR5X-7500 is particularly fast, and results from an 890M laptop with slower or differently configured memory may not match it.

The GTX 1650 has 4GB of dedicated VRAM. That gives it a separate graphics-memory pool, which can help with texture-heavy workloads, although 4GB is itself a limit in demanding modern games. When memory use or settings exceed what a GPU can handle comfortably, average FPS alone may not describe the resulting stutter or inconsistency.

Power, cooling and sustained performance

A thin laptop and a desktop graphics card do not necessarily hold the same performance over a long session. The 890M shares a laptop’s power and thermal budget with the CPU; cooling design and firmware determine how much performance it can sustain. The desktop GTX 1650 has a different power and cooling environment. A particular GTX 1650 laptop can also differ from the desktop card, so these results do not establish a ranking for every laptop bearing that GPU name.

Resolution and image quality

Although most listed tests target 1080p, settings are not uniform. RoboCop: Rogue City, for example, used 85% resolution scaling at Low, so it was not rendered at full native 1080p resolution. Lowering resolution or quality can make a game playable on either GPU, but results at one preset should not be read as proof of smooth performance at higher settings.

Which GPU makes more sense for your games?

Choose the Radeon 890M for an efficient, portable system

  • It is built into the processor, so an 890M-equipped laptop can provide gaming without a separate discrete GPU.
  • The primary test shows it can reach GTX 1650-class performance in selected games, especially with fast memory and settings that suit the game.
  • It is a reasonable fit for scalable games and lighter workloads when you are willing to use Low settings, reduce resolution, or try 900p or 720p if native 1080p is too demanding.

Choose the GTX 1650 for more predictable 1080p headroom

  • It is the safer bet if you prioritize sustained native-1080p play or higher texture settings over portability and system efficiency.
  • Its dedicated 4GB VRAM separates graphics-memory use from system RAM, though that capacity may still constrain texture-heavy newer games.
  • Confirm whether a benchmark refers to the desktop or laptop GTX 1650: their power limits and cooling can produce different results.

Check the individual laptop, not just the GPU name

  • For an 890M system, check the installed memory capacity, speed and configuration; shared-memory bandwidth can affect graphics performance.
  • For either GPU, look for the device’s cooling and power limits, since a short benchmark result may not represent sustained play.
  • Compare results at the resolution and preset you actually intend to use, and distinguish native 1080p from resolution-scaled output.

Verdict

The Radeon 890M is a credible integrated alternative to GTX 1650-class graphics in selected games, but the evidence does not support calling it a universal replacement. Its standout results depend on the game, settings and a well-configured laptop; broader separate testing favors the GTX 1650 overall. Choose based on the specific system and target settings rather than assuming either GPU wins every 1080p comparison.
