Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 on March 17, 2023, positioning it as the top of its 7-series and a way to bring selected flagship-style features to mid-range Android phones. Its headline CPU, graphics, efficiency and connectivity figures are Qualcomm’s comparisons with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1—not independent test results or guarantees for every phone.
What Qualcomm announced
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is a smartphone mobile platform built on a 4 nm process. Qualcomm’s launch announcement said commercial devices were expected in March 2023 and named Redmi and realme among the brands adopting it. That dated forecast does not identify a currently available model or establish its price or availability in any particular region.
Qualcomm described the platform as bringing selected premium capabilities to more accessible phones. In practical terms, its specifications describe what a phone maker can build around the chip; they do not ensure that every handset implements or exposes every feature.
Performance and efficiency claims
Qualcomm lists a CPU peak speed of up to 2.91 GHz. It also claimed the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 delivers over 50% improved CPU performance, twice the GPU performance and up to 13% improved system power efficiency compared with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. These are Qualcomm’s platform comparisons, not independently published handset benchmark results.

For AI, Qualcomm claimed more than twice the performance and 40% better performance per watt. Those figures are also Qualcomm claims; they should not be read as a measured outcome for a particular app or phone.
The platform supports selected Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, including Auto Variable Rate Shading and Volumetric Rendering. Whether a game supports those features and whether a phone maker enables them depend on the software and device.
Camera and video capabilities
The imaging system includes an 18-bit triple ISP and support for photo capture at up to 200 MP. Qualcomm also describes low-light multi-image processing and staggered HDR video support. These are platform capabilities, not a promise of a specific photo or video result: the phone’s camera sensors, optics, software processing and implementation all matter.
5G, Wi-Fi and charging
The Snapdragon X62 modem-RF supports a Qualcomm-claimed peak 5G download speed of up to 4.4 Gbps. FastConnect 6900 supports Wi-Fi 6E, with a stated peak Wi-Fi speed of up to 3.6 Gbps. Those are peak platform figures, not typical speeds or service guarantees; actual performance depends on network, spectrum, router, region and device implementation.

Qualcomm’s product brief also lists Quick Charge support and cautions that the designed charging increase may vary with device design. The chipset announcement alone does not establish how fast a particular phone charges.

What the announcement means when choosing a phone
The platform announcement is useful for identifying a phone’s potential feature set, but it cannot answer the main handset-specific buying questions. Two phones using the same chipset may differ in sustained performance, battery life, camera output, software support, supported cellular bands, price and local availability.
- Confirm the exact phone model’s processor in its official specifications rather than relying on a series name or retailer shorthand.
- Check independent reviews for sustained workloads, gaming behavior, battery endurance and camera quality.
- Verify 5G bands and network compatibility for your carrier and country; the modem’s peak figure alone does not establish compatibility or coverage.
- Check the manufacturer’s software-update commitment, local price and current stock for the precise model and region.
