There is not enough confirmed information to choose between PS6 and Xbox Helix yet. Xbox has announced Project Helix, but its stated 2027 milestone is developer alpha hardware—not a consumer release date. The Sony Interactive Entertainment newsroom page reviewed here does not establish PS6 specifications, price, or launch timing. If you need a console now, Xbox lists Series X as available to buy; if you can wait, hold off on choosing between the next-generation systems until both companies publish retail details.
What is confirmed about Xbox Helix?
On March 11, 2026, Xbox Wire reported that Project Helix is the name of Xbox’s next-generation first-party console project. Xbox says it is designed to play Xbox console and PC games. Microsoft Game Development also attributed the announcement to Jason Ronald, Xbox’s Vice President of Next Generation.
Development timing is not a release date
Xbox says it plans to ship alpha versions of Helix hardware to developers beginning in 2027. That is a development milestone, not a date when consumers can buy the console. The announcement gives no consumer launch date or price.
Hardware and performance claims
Xbox describes Helix as having a custom AMD SoC co-designed for next-generation DirectX and FSR. It also claims an “order of magnitude leap in ray tracing performance and capability.” These are Xbox’s descriptions of a system in development, not independently verified benchmarks or evidence that Helix will outperform PS6.

What is confirmed about PS6?
The Sony Interactive Entertainment newsroom page reviewed for this comparison displayed 2026 news and releases but did not establish a PS6 announcement or product details. That bounded check does not prove Sony has made no separate announcement. Based on the official material reviewed, there is no confirmed PS6 price, retail specification, or consumer launch date to compare with Helix.
PS6 vs. Xbox Helix: what can you compare now?
There are not yet two documented future retail products in the official sources reviewed. The available comparison is therefore about what each company has confirmed—not a buying verdict based on final hardware.

Xbox’s March 2026 announcement also cites more than 1,500 games in its Xbox Play Anywhere catalog and more than 5,000 developers around the world building for Xbox. Those are Xbox-published figures, not like-for-like measures of PS6’s future game library or developer support; the reviewed material provides no corresponding Sony figures.
Should you buy a console now or wait?
If you need a console now
Xbox lists Series X as available for purchase and says it is compatible with thousands of games across four Xbox generations. That makes it a current-generation option, not a substitute for Helix or evidence about PS6. Availability and price where you live are not established here, so check the current listing and local retailers before buying.

If you can wait
Wait for official consumer launch windows, prices, retail specifications, and game-library or backward-compatibility details from both companies. Once those are public, compare the actual products against the games you want to play and the amount you are willing to spend. Do not use Helix’s developer-alpha timing to predict when it will reach stores.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to compare when retail details arrive
- Price and availability: Compare confirmed consumer prices and real availability in your region, not development milestones.
- Games and library continuity: Check which new games interest you and what compatibility is officially confirmed for your existing library.
- Performance evidence: Look for comparable tests with clearly described conditions. A manufacturer’s claim about a system in development is not a head-to-head benchmark.
- Timing: Decide whether your current setup can meet your needs while you wait for both products to become available.
Until those details are public, a definitive PS6-versus-Helix recommendation would be speculation. The decision you can make now is whether to buy available current-generation hardware or wait for confirmed next-generation products.
