Sony has not announced a PlayStation 6 price or release date. The concern about a costly PS6 has a real basis—Sony says memory prices and supply shortages are pressuring hardware profitability—but any specific PS6 price circulating now is an estimate, not an official figure.
Has Sony announced the PS6 price or release date?
No. Sony has not announced either in the public statements and filings discussed here. In June 2026, Sony president and CEO Hiroki Totoki was reported as saying the company had not decided when to launch its new console or at what prices (GameSpot). Sony’s own June 2026 investor Q&A describes continued investment in a next-generation platform and evaluation of technology, hardware, and business-model scenarios; it does not set a launch date or price (Sony, June 5, 2026).
The evidence also does not establish a final product name, model range, specifications, or launch lineup. Treat posts or headlines giving a precise dollar price as unverified estimates unless they point to an official Sony announcement.
Why are gamers worried about a high price?
Memory costs and supply are genuine pressures
Sony’s FY2025 filing identifies higher memory-semiconductor prices and supply shortages as risks to hardware profitability. It says the company may adjust unit sales and promotions flexibly to manage profitability (Sony FY2025 Form 20-F). That is a concrete cost concern, but it does not reveal what a future console will cost to make or sell.

Sony says it will not absorb every increase
Hideaki Nishino, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said in a June 5, 2026 Q&A: “As for pricing, it is not realistic for us to absorb all component cost increases, and we have already implemented some price increases outside Japan. At present, however, sales are proceeding as planned, and we do not believe this has led to a decline in customer demand. As a principle, we do not intend to sell hardware at significant losses.” (Sony)
This describes a pricing constraint, not a PS6 pricing policy. Sony’s eventual retail price would also depend on the console’s configuration, exchange rates, regional taxes, promotions, launch strategy, and market conditions. The available figures do not let an outside observer calculate a PS6 price.

Sony reported more than 93 million PS5 units installed and 125 million monthly active user accounts as of March 2026 (Sony). Those figures indicate the scale of the current platform, not how many people will buy a PS6 or what they would pay. Sony’s FY2025 Game & Network Services segment reported revenue of ¥4,685,651 million and operating income of ¥463,258 million; these are segment totals, not console unit economics from which a future retail price can be derived (Sony FY2025 Form 20-F).
Could Sony delay the next console?
A later launch is one possible business consideration, but Sony has not announced a schedule. The company says timing decisions involve technology, marketing, regional dynamics, and pricing (Sony, June 5, 2026).
