Three ways an older game can behave on PS5 Pro
It helps to separate games with a documented Pro enhancement from games that may benefit through Game Boost, and from games for which no specific improvement is documented. Sony says more than 100 PS5 titles are enhanced for PS5 Pro, and its current roster can change. [Sony’s PS5 Pro page]

Games with a dedicated PS5 Pro enhancement
These titles have specific support to use PS5 Pro hardware for improved visuals or performance. Depending on the game, that can affect image clarity or resolution, frame rate, or ray tracing. Some compatible games can use PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), Sony’s AI-based upscaling technology. PSSR support and its results vary by title; it is not a general upgrade applied to every older game.
In March 2026, Sony announced broader support for an upgraded version of PSSR and said owners could enable the updated image-quality setting in supported games. The titles it named included Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill f, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Alan Wake 2, Control and Monster Hunter Wilds. Sony cautioned that results vary by title. Games that may benefit from Game Boost
Sony says Game Boost can offer faster and smoother frame rates in some PS4 and PS5 games. A game does not have to be described as PS5 Pro-enhanced for Game Boost to be relevant, but Sony does not promise a benefit in every backward-compatible game. [Sony’s PS5 Pro page]
Games with no specific improvement documented
If a game is not identified as Pro-enhanced and no title-specific Game Boost or PSSR support is established, do not assume it will look sharper or run faster. Its absence from Sony’s current enhancement list does not prove there is no performance difference; it means a specific improvement is not documented there. Check the current listing and the game’s latest patch information before relying on a particular feature.
What to check for a particular game
- Look for a dedicated Pro enhancement. Check Sony’s current enhanced-game listing and the game’s own update information; the roster and software support can change.
- Check Game Boost expectations. Sony describes faster and smoother frame rates in some PS4 and PS5 games, not all titles. Do not treat backward compatibility alone as confirmation of a frame-rate improvement.
- Check whether PSSR is supported. Upscaling applies only to compatible games. For updated PSSR, verify that the game supports the updated image-quality setting.
- Compare the outcome that matters to you. Look for title-specific information about image clarity or resolution, frame-rate level and stability, and ray tracing rather than assuming every feature improves together.
- Confirm your display supports the feature. Sony’s 60fps or up-to-120fps, ray-tracing and AI-enhanced 4K descriptions refer to compatible games and displays. They are capability statements, not settings every older game will reach.
How broad is older-game compatibility?
Sony says PS5 Pro can play over 8,500 PS4 games. That establishes broad compatibility, not that all those games receive a visible or measurable upgrade. The separate claim that more than 100 PS5 titles are enhanced for PS5 Pro concerns enhanced PS5 titles, not a count of all older games that benefit from Pro hardware. [Sony’s PS5 Pro page]

Is PS5 Pro worth upgrading for older games?
Base the decision on the particular games you play, not the size of Sony’s compatibility or enhancement figures. A dedicated Pro enhancement provides the clearest reason to expect a change; Game Boost may help some other games, while no title-specific improvement is guaranteed for the rest. If your favorite older games have no documented Pro feature and already perform or look the way you want, the general compatibility claim alone is not evidence that an upgrade will improve them.
