The first PS5 Pro preorder day, September 26, 2024, was chiefly a scramble for the separate 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle—not a worldwide sellout of the regular PS5 Pro. In Spain, LOS40 reported that the anniversary console was no longer on sale by 10:02 a.m. local time, after a queue formed before the store opened. That account describes Spain, not a confirmed global sellout time.
Sony had set different preorder dates and routes by product and market: the anniversary Pro and regular PS5 Pro were scheduled to open through PlayStation Direct in supported regions on September 26, while other participating retailers were to begin standard PS5 Pro preorders on October 10. Japan used an application-and-lottery process for the anniversary Pro.
What happened on the first preorder day?
September 26, 2024 was the scheduled opening for the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle through PlayStation Direct in supported direct-sale regions. It was also the opening date for the regular PS5 Pro at PlayStation Direct in those regions. The two consoles were distinct products, and Sony’s schedule did not mean that all retailers or all markets opened at the same time.
Spain: the anniversary bundle disappeared quickly
LOS40’s September 26 report said a queue for the Spanish PlayStation store had already formed hours before its 10 a.m. local opening. The outlet reported that the anniversary consoles were no longer on sale by 10:02 a.m. It also relayed users’ accounts of errors and failed checkout attempts; those are reported customer experiences, not independently verified transaction records.

The report supports a narrow conclusion: the Spanish store’s anniversary Pro allocation appeared to vanish very quickly. It does not establish when stock ran out in other countries, whether every Spanish shopper who tried to buy one failed, or whether the standard PS5 Pro sold out at the same time. Sony did not publish a buyer success rate or a worldwide minute-by-minute stock record in the announcements cited here.
What buyers elsewhere were asking
A contemporaneous Reddit thread asked, “Anyone manage to bag the PS5 PRO 30th anniversary edition?” That captures the kind of question shoppers were asking, but an individual discussion is anecdotal, not a representative survey of demand or purchase outcomes.
How Sony scheduled the preorders
Sony’s announcements set different routes depending on region and product. For the September 26 launch, PlayStation Direct was the route in supported direct-sale markets; where the service was unavailable, Sony directed customers to participating retailers. Sony listed the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Austria among its direct-sale regions for the anniversary collection.

| Date | Product or event | What Sony announced |
|---|---|---|
| September 19, 2024 | 30th Anniversary Collection announcement | Sony announced the collection, its November 21 release date and the 12,300-unit worldwide limit for the anniversary PS5 Pro bundle. |
| September 26, 2024 | Anniversary PS5 Pro and standard PS5 Pro | Preorders were scheduled through PlayStation Direct in supported regions; participating retailers were the route where PlayStation Direct was unavailable. |
| September 30, 2024 | Anniversary PS5 Pro in Japan | Applications were to begin through a PlayStation.com form linked to a Sony account. Sony said it would use a lottery if applications exceeded planned units. |
| October 10, 2024 | Standard PS5 Pro at other retailers | Sony scheduled preorders at participating retailers beyond PlayStation Direct. The 30th Anniversary PS5 Digital Edition bundle was also scheduled for participating-retailer preorders in direct-sale regions. |
| November 7, 2024 | Standard PS5 Pro | Sony announced the standard console’s availability date. |
| November 21, 2024 | 30th Anniversary Collection | Sony announced the collection’s release date. |
The Japanese process is a clear example of why the event cannot be described as one simultaneous worldwide queue: Sony’s Japanese announcement specified applications for the limited Pro starting September 30, with a lottery if applications exceeded planned units. Other Japanese collection products were scheduled to begin preorder through local PlayStation retailers and online stores on that date.

The anniversary PS5 Pro was a different bundle
Sony said 12,300 PlayStation 5 Pro Console – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundles would be available worldwide. Each console would have a limited-edition number etched onto it, representing the month and day of the original PlayStation’s launch: December 3. The retro color scheme was inspired by the original PlayStation design.
The bundle was more than a differently colored standard console. Sony listed a 2TB limited-edition console, matching DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers, a DualSense charging station, a vertical stand, a cover for a separately sold disc drive, and collector items. The announcement did not publish market-by-market allocations, so the worldwide total cannot tell a buyer how many units were offered in any one country.

How the standard PS5 Pro differed
The standard PS5 Pro was a separate, non-anniversary product. Sony announced it with a 2TB SSD, one DualSense wireless controller and Astro’s Playroom pre-installed. Unlike the anniversary bundle, it did not come with the additional anniversary accessories and collector items listed above. Sony announced no equivalent worldwide unit cap for the standard console in these launch materials.
