What do you get with Extra and Premium?
Both tiers include the shared PlayStation Plus benefits PlayStation lists: monthly games, online multiplayer, exclusive discounts, cloud storage, Share Play, and exclusive content. Extra adds the Game Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics. Premium includes those benefits and adds the Classics Catalog, selected game trials, cloud streaming, and the Sony Pictures Catalog. Which tier fits your play habits?
Extra is the better fit if you mainly want a changing game library
Extra suits players who want to browse and play games from the Game Catalog, alongside the shared benefits, but do not expect to use Premium’s extra features. PlayStation describes the catalog as featuring hundreds of games, with new titles added regularly; that is not a guarantee that a particular game will be available when you look. Check the games and FAQ page for current access details.

Premium can make sense if its additions will get regular use
Premium is easier to justify if you want to play titles in the Classics Catalog, use eligible game trials, or stream supported games on a compatible device. Think about what you will actually do during a typical month: a feature you use often may justify the price gap, while a feature you only intend to try once may not.
Compare use, not just the number of benefits
- Want the Game Catalog and shared benefits, with no clear use for Premium extras? Choose Extra.
- Interested in classics or trials? Check whether the available selection includes games you want before paying more.
- Expect to stream? Confirm that your game, device, and connection are supported first.
- Unsure whether Premium’s extras will become part of your routine? Extra avoids paying for features you may not use.
What should you check before choosing Premium for streaming?
Premium cloud streaming is available on PS4 and PS5 consoles and PC, according to PlayStation. Its FAQ also says selected games can stream to PS5 or PlayStation Portal. The support page lists a minimum internet speed of 5 Mbps and 15 Mbps for 1080p. These thresholds do not mean every game or setup is eligible: PlayStation warns that some games may not be available to stream. Check the PlayStation Plus support page and the game’s listing for your device before treating streaming as a reason to upgrade.

How often does the catalog change?
Catalog contents and availability change over time, so neither tier promises permanent access to a named game. PlayStation’s plan and games pages state that, from January 2026, PS4 games will be added only intermittently. If frequent new PS4 additions are central to your decision, do not assume a regular cadence; check the current catalog listings instead.

Premium is worth considering when you expect to use its specific additions—Classics Catalog access, selected trials, or supported cloud streaming—often enough to value them above the extra cost. If the Game Catalog and shared benefits are what you want, Extra offers those without the Premium-only features. Make the decision against the current catalog and your actual play habits, and verify your local price before purchase.
