The Prusa CORE One L’s main advantage is its 300 × 300 × 330 mm build volume: it can handle larger objects or more parts in a batch than the smaller CORE One, while its actively heated chamber is designed for demanding materials. Tom’s Hardware’s December 2025 review praised the original L’s setup, calibration and large-format printing, but also called it expensive. Prusa’s current product page is for the updated CORE One L+, so buyers should check which version a listing describes.

What does the CORE One L add?

The CORE One L is an enclosed CoreXY FDM 3D printer built around a larger print area. Its 300 × 300 × 330 mm envelope works out to 29.7 litres on Prusa’s current CORE One L+ product page. Prusa’s October 2025 launch announcement described the original L as about 10% larger externally than the CORE One while offering about twice its print volume; those are manufacturer comparisons, not independent measurements. Prusa’s launch announcement explains the intended large-format use.

In practical terms, the space can let a user print a larger prototype or prop in fewer pieces, or arrange more small parts in one job. Whether a particular object fits depends on its geometry, orientation, supports and print settings; the nominal dimensions do not guarantee that every model with similar overall dimensions will be printable.

How well did the original CORE One L perform?

Tom’s Hardware reviewed the original CORE One L on December 10, 2025, and named it an Editor’s Choice. Reviewer Denise Bertacchi highlighted its large build volume, offline operation, maintenance approach, automatic bed leveling and ease of setup. The review said the printer arrived 98% assembled and praised it for larger models and small production runs.

Original Prusa 3D Printer CORE One L HighSpeed Large-Format Enclosed CoreXY
  • [MASSIVE LARGE-FORMAT BUILD VOLUME]: 11.8×11.8×12.99 in print space enables full-scale industrial parts, architectural models, and cosplay helmets without splitting or assembly.
  • [ACTIVELY HEATED 60°C CHAMBER]: Stable chamber temperature ensures improved layer adhesion and reduced warping when printing advanced materials such as ASA, ABS, PC, and Nylon.
  • [TRUE UNPACK AND PRINT EXPERIENCE]: Fast setup with minimal calibration required. Automated sensors handle leveling and print preparation for a smooth start within minutes.
  • [HIGH-RIGIDITY COREXY PRECISION FRAME]: Steel exoskeleton design provides maximum stability for high-speed printing with consistent dimensional accuracy and professional surface finish.
  • [HIGH-FLOW SPEED OPTIMIZATION]: CoreXY motion system combined with high-flow extrusion enables fast, reliable printing across a wide range of materials.

Tom’s Hardware reported a 23-minute Benchy under its specified Speed Benchy settings. That is the outlet’s result under those test conditions, not a typical time for arbitrary prints. The review also listed expense as a drawback and noted that the enclosure is not fully airtight. Its optional filtration system required more involved assembly than the printer itself. See the Tom’s Hardware review of the original CORE One L for the outlet’s full test context.

What are the chamber and temperature capabilities?

The current CORE One L+ product page specifies an actively heated convection chamber that reaches a maximum of 60 °C. Prusa positions the heated enclosure for materials such as ABS, ASA, nylon and polycarbonate, but material compatibility does not mean every filament will print successfully without tuning. The official page marks ABS, ASA, HIPS and PA as requiring advanced filtration; check the material-specific guidance before printing. Prusa’s CORE One L+ product page lists the current material and equipment details.

Prusa’s October 31, 2025 launch article claims the AC-powered convection heatbed has less than 2 °C temperature variance across 99% of the print surface and heats 25% faster than the CORE One bed. These are manufacturer-reported figures, not independent test results.

The current L+ page lists a 290 °C standard nozzle maximum, with temperatures up to 400 °C available using the optional HT Hotend. The higher figure therefore depends on buying that optional hotend; it is not the standard nozzle limit.

What is different about the CORE One L+?

Prusa’s current product page is for the CORE One L+. The August 2026 refresh adds GT1.5 belts and an integrated nozzle wiper. Those features should not be attributed to the original L tested by Tom’s Hardware in December 2025.

Prusa lists a preinstalled high-flow 0.4 mm CHT nozzle and an abrasive-resistant 0.4 mm nozzle included with the current L+. Its page also lists removable double-sided PEI sheets. Confirm that a replacement nozzle or sheet is specifically compatible with the version you own before ordering.

Is it a good fit for your workshop?

It makes sense if you need the volume

  • Your recurring projects are too wide or tall for a smaller printer, or you want to reduce how often large parts must be split and joined.
  • You need to print batches of smaller objects and can benefit from arranging more parts on a larger bed.
  • You want an enclosure with active heating for materials that benefit from a warmer printing environment, and you are prepared to follow material-specific settings and filtration guidance.

Look elsewhere if you cannot use the larger footprint

  • The machine measures 469 × 521 × 635 mm and weighs 21.9 kg, figures listed by both Prusa’s current L+ page and Tom’s Hardware’s original-L review. Allow for practical access and ventilation needs in addition to the listed dimensions.
  • If most of your prints fit comfortably in a smaller build area, the L’s defining advantage may not justify its larger machine and the expense noted by Tom’s Hardware.
  • If airtight containment is essential, note that Tom’s Hardware said the enclosure is not fully airtight; its review also described the optional filter installation as more involved than printer assembly.

Setup, connectivity and ongoing ownership

Tom’s Hardware’s original-L review reported that its unit arrived 98% assembled and highlighted automatic bed leveling and ease of setup. The current L+ page lists Ethernet, an NFC receiver and a removable Wi-Fi module. The review listed USB, LAN, Wi-Fi and app connectivity for the original L; check the exact configuration and documentation for the version being purchased.

Filament is a recurring cost, and the appropriate material depends on the part’s intended use and the printer settings. Prusa lists a range of materials, with advanced filtration specified for ABS, ASA, HIPS and PA. Nozzle replacements and PEI sheets are other plausible ownership items; confirm exact CORE One L or L+ fit rather than assuming accessories are interchangeable.

Firmware, slicer and handbook versions change over time. Prusa’s support hub listed firmware 6.8.1 dated August 14, 2026, PrusaSlicer 2.9.6 dated August 28, 2026, and Handbook 1.01 dated September 10, 2026. For current downloads and documentation, use Prusa Support.

Price and buying-version caveat

Tom’s Hardware listed an original US price of $1,799 in its December 2025 review. That is historical launch-era pricing, not a confirmed current price. The current Prusa page describes the L+, and an older retailer listing may refer to the original L rather than the refreshed model. Verify the listing’s revision, included hardware, current price and accessory compatibility before buying.
