Our verdict on Zype Playout

Zype Playout is a cloud-based video playout platform from Backlight for broadcasters, digital publishers, consumer brands, and media companies. It combines live feeds and VOD assets into continuous linear channels, with imports available through uploads, MRSS feeds, APIs, and connectors. Teams can schedule programming through drag-and-drop timeline and calendar views or manage channels through API tools. The product is aimed at operations that need recurring programming, live-event insertion, ad workflows, and distribution across digital, FAST, social, and other destinations.

Pricing is positioned for larger operations. Playout Standard is listed at $1,999 per month with annual billing, while Playout Advanced is listed at $3,499 per month with annual billing. Both published plan summaries include the Channel Scheduler UI, Channel API Access, SSAI support, Live Event Scheduling, and 1 Standard HLS Destination. The product has no free plan, and destination connectors are add-ons. That makes the annual commitment and starting price important considerations for smaller teams, especially when their needs are limited to basic streaming or occasional live events. Buyers should compare the included destination setup and any required add-ons before selecting a tier.

Its strongest fit is a multi-destination workflow with operational depth. Zype Playout supports playlist, program-block, and dynamic programming loops; priority-track overrides for live events; metadata-powered graphics; third-party ad insertion; and output through HLS, RTMP, SRT, and Zixi. Listed integrations include The Roku Channel, Samsung TV Plus, Pluto, Twitch, YouTube, Local Now, Plex, and Xumo. Choose it when channel scheduling, automation, SSAI, graphics, and broad distribution are central requirements. Smaller operators or teams seeking a lower-cost, narrower streaming tool should look elsewhere.
