Our verdict on ZureMap

ZureMap is an open-source Angular application for visualizing Microsoft Azure infrastructure. It authenticates through Azure CLI, scans one or more Azure subscriptions, discovers resources and relationships, and turns them into interactive architecture diagrams. Teams can group resources by subscription, resource group, or VNet; expand resource details; rearrange the canvas; and add annotations. Its cloud and self-hosted deployment options suit small teams, mid-market organizations, and enterprises that need Azure-focused mapping.

Its platform fit is intentionally narrow and clear: Microsoft Azure and Azure CLI are the listed integrations. Azure CLI authentication provides the route for scanning subscriptions, while automatic discovery covers resources, VNets, and relationships. Diagrams support interactive drag, pan, and zoom, with ELK-based automatic layout for arranging elements. The project can run locally or from a published Docker image, and a hosted demonstration is available. Organizations standardizing on Azure can keep discovery and visualization within that ecosystem, while teams needing multi-cloud mapping should look elsewhere.

ZureMap also extends beyond topology diagrams. FinOps cost visualization and top-cost insights add a financial perspective, while DNS zone and record management keeps related information in the same workspace. Image and JSON exports support sharing visual diagrams or configuration data. The main consideration is licensing: the repository uses Elastic License 2.0, which permits personal and internal use but restricts providing ZureMap as a hosted or managed service.
