ZenTao brings project, product and portfolio management together with requirements, tasks, bugs, test cases, documentation and effort tracking. Its focus is software development and R&D processes, with support for Scrum, Kanban and waterfall. Teams that need to trace work from requirements through testing may value having these activities in one system; organizations seeking a general-purpose project tracker without development lifecycle functions may find that breadth unnecessary.

Deployment is a key distinction. ZenTao offers cloud service and an open-source edition for self-hosting. The open-source version is free with no time or user limit, while Cloud Free is limited to five users. Cloud Enterprise adds open-source edition features, dedicated resources and a 99.9% SLA. Cloud Flagship includes open-source and enterprise edition features, the same SLA and remote backups. Cloud IPD adds those earlier edition features and the IPD development model.
