Our verdict on YPtun
YPtun is an open-source VPN client for people who need configurable connections on restricted networks, including Iran. It connects to server subscriptions supplied by the user rather than advertising a consumer VPN service with its own server network. The official site lists Android, Windows, and Linux builds, with iOS described as a beta version. That makes YPtun a fit for technically confident individuals and small teams who want control over protocols and routing; it is less suited to someone seeking a turnkey paid VPN account.
Its strongest distinction is protocol and connection flexibility. YPtun supports Xray and sing-box cores, multiple proxy and tunnel protocols, and obfuscation options including AmneziaWG and Hysteria2. Users can import configurations by QR code, link, or file, set routing rules, and split traffic between tunneled and other connections. The client can test subscription nodes, select the fastest live node, and fall back when a connection fails. It also captures IPv4 and IPv6 traffic through the tunnel and can export diagnostic logs. For users managing their own setup, it can install supported server components on a VPS over SSH. These controls make it more adaptable than a basic client, but they also presume the user can source and manage the underlying server access.
YPtun is open source and has a free plan, so there is no paid tier structure to weigh here. Its ecosystem is comparatively narrow: the listed builds are Android, Windows, and Linux, and support is community-based. The product does not present itself as a provider selling subscriptions or bundled server locations; buyers who want a ready-made service, broad platform coverage, or direct support should consider another option. Choose YPtun if you already have, or intend to configure, your own nodes and value protocol choice and routing control.
