Our verdict on WinUI Reactor

For C# developers building Windows desktop applications with WinUI 3, WinUI Reactor offers a component-based way to describe interfaces as element trees. It manages UI state with hooks and reconciles those trees to update native WinUI controls. The project is experimental, so it is a fit for developers comfortable tracking an evolving API rather than teams that need a settled framework contract. Its scope is desktop Windows, not mobile app development.

The framework’s main distinction is how it combines declarative composition with native WinUI. C# factory methods and fluent modifiers provide an alternative to constructing UI directly in XAML, while XAML and existing WinUI controls can still interoperate with Reactor. Hooks include UseState, UseReducer, and UseEffect. Support for multiple native top-level windows also suits desktop applications that need more than one window. Developers already invested in WinUI 3, XAML, and the Windows App SDK can add Reactor without giving up those technologies.

WinUI Reactor is free and open source under the MIT license, and its preview package is available through NuGet. Packaging options include MSIX, an unpackaged folder, and a single-file bundle. Documentation and community channels are the stated support routes. Those characteristics make it accessible for evaluating or adopting in projects where an experimental framework is acceptable; teams requiring a stable API or support beyond those channels should consider another approach. Its Windows-only scope also makes it unsuitable for projects targeting other operating systems.
