Our verdict on WhatFPS Benchmark

WhatFPS Benchmark is a free Windows application for measuring gaming-PC performance across graphics, processor, memory, and storage workloads. It suits players, PC builders, and troubleshooters who want a broad view of system performance rather than a benchmark focused on one component. The application uses fixed 3D scenes and reports FPS, 1% lows, draw calls, bandwidth, latency, and component scores. Four graphics APIs are supported: DirectX 11, DirectX 12, DirectX 12 Ultimate, and Vulkan.

Its main strength is coverage. GPU tests include scenes with ray tracing, mesh shaders, and variable rate shading, while CPU tests measure floating-point, integer, AVX, cache-latency, and draw-call performance. RAM testing covers bandwidth and DRAM latency, and disk testing includes sequential reads, 4K random IOPS, and p99 latency. This combination gives users a single place to examine both gaming-oriented graphics performance and supporting system components. Optional passive in-game FPS tracking adds a separate way to observe performance during play.

Comparison is another central feature. Benchmark runs are cryptographically signed and server-verified, then published to a public leaderboard with percentile rankings and side-by-side rig comparisons. Fragz can also provide AI-generated performance explanations, which may help interpret results beyond raw scores. The Free plan includes the full listed benchmark coverage, leaderboard comparison, and no account requirement. The main boundary is platform support: Windows is required, so it is not a fit for systems outside that platform. The product is also in beta, which may matter to buyers seeking a mature, narrowly validated benchmarking utility. Choose WhatFPS Benchmark for broad, comparable Windows testing; choose an alternative if cross-platform support is essential.
