Our verdict on WhaTap Database Monitoring

WhaTap Database Monitoring is a SaaS performance monitoring service for developers, DBAs, and IT operations teams responsible for multiple database instances. It provides real-time views of active sessions, running SQL, locks, resource metrics, slow queries, logs, and historical performance data. The published database list includes MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, EDB, AgensSQL, Oracle, MSSQL, Tibero, CUBRID, Altibase, Redis, MongoDB, SingleStore, IBM DB2, and SAP ASE. Its strongest fit is a cloud team that needs one monitoring service across varied database engines rather than a tool focused on a single platform.

Pricing is split by database type and infrastructure unit. The Trial plan provides 15 days at no charge, with all features available and 15-day data retention. Subscription — Open Source DB costs $65 per server host or VM monthly, while Subscription — Commercial DB costs $20 per vCPU or CPU core monthly. Both paid plans include instance and multiple-instance monitoring, slow-query analysis, lock trees, session history, and one-year data retention excluding some data. Subscription — Oracle Pro costs $40 per vCPU or CPU core monthly and adds Direct Memory Access technology and a 0.05-second collection interval. There is no free plan after the trial, and buyers should model costs against their database mix and billing units.

The monitoring depth is suited to teams investigating database behavior, not just checking availability. Active-session views, lock-holder and waiter information, SQL elapsed-time visualization, top SQL statistics, and execution plans in text and JSON formats support query and contention analysis. Database logs can be followed with Live Tail and Log Search, while custom and preset dashboards provide broader views. Email, SMS, and third-party notification services are supported, alongside application monitoring, server monitoring, and database logs. Choose WhaTap when broad engine coverage and detailed database diagnostics matter; teams wanting a free ongoing tier or a non-web deployment model should consider alternatives.
