Our verdict on WebhookInbox
WebhookInbox is an open-source web service for receiving HTTP requests from external applications and storing them for later inspection. It generates inbox URLs that developers can provide to webhook or callback senders, making it suited to debugging HTTP callbacks and examining data sent by browsers and client applications. The product is available through web and API interfaces, and the project can also be self-hosted.
Its strongest capability is request visibility. Incoming request data appears in real time, while REST API endpoints support inbox creation, management, and retrieval of stored request items. HTTP long-polling and streaming provide live-update options for applications that need to monitor activity programmatically. Developers can also configure HTTP responses for pending requests, control inbox expiration, refresh or destroy inboxes, and handle PubSubHubbub verification callbacks.
WebhookInbox fits teams that need a focused place to capture and inspect callback traffic, particularly when an API-driven workflow or self-hosted deployment is preferred. Its scope is narrower than a full webhook delivery-management system: it does not verify retries, replay requests, verify signatures, or provide routing. Teams that primarily need request capture, inspection, retrieval, and live updates should find the feature set aligned with that task. Teams seeking controls for delivery reliability, authentication validation, or multi-destination routing should choose a product built around those functions instead.
