Our verdict on Wavemaker Cards
Wavemaker Cards is a free, open-source application for authors who want one workspace for planning, organizing, and drafting novels. Its tools cover chapter and scene organization, movable notes, planning boards, character and scene notes, Snowflake outlining, story timelines, grid planning, and tagged research storage. It suits writers who prefer to develop a book's structure before or alongside drafting, especially those working across web, Windows, Linux, and Android environments.
The published product details show a single free offering rather than separate paid tiers. Wavemaker Cards runs as an offline Progressive Web App, stores projects locally, and supports Google Drive synchronization and backup. That combination fits writers who want to keep working without an active connection while maintaining a cloud-backed copy. Google Drive is the listed integration, so the product's ecosystem fit is focused rather than broad. Its multi-platform access is useful for writers moving between desktop and mobile-compatible browsers.
The main trade-off is the boundary between planning and finished-manuscript production. Export is available to text and RTF documents, while the feature set emphasizes organization, outlining, research, and drafting rather than a wider range of manuscript delivery formats. Collaboration is also not supported, making the product a poor fit for writing teams or workflows that depend on simultaneous editing. Writers seeking free, detailed planning tools and offline access should consider Wavemaker Cards; writers who need collaborative editing or more extensive export options should choose another book-writing application.
