Our verdict on bibisco
For novelists who want planning and drafting together, bibisco brings story structure, writing, and analysis into one workspace. Its tools cover character development, chapters and scenes, storylines, timelines, mind maps, writing goals, and a word processor with spell check, formatting, writing metrics, and distraction-free mode. Authors can organize long-form fiction from outline through draft, then review novel length, characters, locations, objects, and points of view. The Community Edition is free and supports unlimited projects, with desktop apps for Linux, macOS, and Windows. It is a good fit for independent fiction writers who want structure around a novel; it is less suited to teams looking for collaboration or writers seeking a general-purpose document editor.
The desktop and mobile options are separate paid paths. Community Edition includes planning and organization tools plus PDF, DOCX, TXT, and archive exports. Supporters Edition is a one-time $59 purchase for the full desktop feature set, with two years of free updates and a 30-day money-back guarantee. bibisco Everywhere adds Android, iPhone, and iPad apps and cloud synchronization, and works with either Community or Supporters Edition. According to the published pricing, Everywhere costs €3.49 per month or €29.99 per year, with a 14-day free trial. Choose Supporters for the desktop feature set; choose Everywhere if mobile writing and syncing across devices matter.
Its standout strength is breadth of novel-specific planning: character interviews, chapter and scene management, story architecture, and analytical views help authors move between the parts of a story without leaving the writing workspace. Exports extend to EPUB as well as common document formats, useful when preparing a draft for other workflows. The trade-off is a deliberate focus on fiction: category information lists collaboration as unsupported, so co-writing teams should look elsewhere. Writers who mainly need a clean place to plan and draft a novel can start with Community Edition, while those who need mobile continuity should factor in the separate subscription.
