Our verdict on Vegha

Vegha is a cross-platform desktop API client and testing application for developers and platform teams. Its local-first design stores collections as plain-text files, requires no account, and supports Windows, macOS, and Linux. The Free plan is MIT-licensed and includes the desktop application and CLI, making Vegha a fit for individuals and teams that want open-source API work without a hosted workspace.

Its strongest area is protocol and workflow coverage. Vegha handles HTTP and REST requests alongside GraphQL, gRPC, WebSocket, and SOAP. Pre-request and post-response scripts can include assertions, while the bundled CLI runs collections for automated workflows. The application imports OpenAPI, Postman, Insomnia, Bruno, and WSDL files, and generates code for cURL, Node.js, Python, Go, C#, and Java. Git operations, including three-pane merge resolution, support collections that need version control. Integrations with GitHub Actions, Git, Azure Key Vault, and AWS Secrets Manager extend that workflow into CI and local secret handling.

Vegha also covers a wide range of authentication methods, including OAuth2, API keys, mTLS, and AWS SigV4. Local secret resolution from Azure Key Vault and AWS Secrets Manager is useful for teams that need credentials kept outside collections. The tradeoff is collaboration breadth: Vegha has no team workspaces and no documentation, so organizations seeking built-in shared workspaces or a documented collaboration layer should choose an alternative. Pick Vegha for open-source, desktop-based API development with scripting, imports, Git, and CLI execution; look elsewhere if browser access, centralized workspaces, or documentation are essential.
