Vectara is an enterprise platform for building retrieval-augmented generation applications and AI agents over proprietary data. It combines document ingestion, extraction, chunking, indexing, semantic search, hybrid keyword and neural search, reranking, answer generation, and source citations. The product is aimed at organizations that need governed retrieval, deployment flexibility, and grounded responses rather than a lightweight experimentation tool.
Its strongest area is the retrieval-to-answer workflow. Vectara can search indexed data, apply metadata filters, rewrite queries, rerank results, and generate answers with citations. Declarative agent workflows add conditional routing, while bring-your-own LLM support gives teams control over the model layer. Connectors include Amazon S3, Google Drive, SharePoint, Box, Confluence, Slack, Google Chat, and Zoom Contact Center, with LangChain and LlamaIndex support for application development. These capabilities make it suitable for knowledge assistants, internal search, and agent experiences that need traceable answers.
