Our verdict on Vearch

Vearch is an open-source, cloud-native distributed vector database for AI applications that retrieve information from embedding vectors. It suits teams that want to run vector infrastructure themselves across Linux, macOS, Kubernetes, Docker Compose, or source-code deployments. Its core capabilities include vector similarity search, scalar and metadata filtering, replication, elastic scaling, and REST APIs for upsert, delete, search, and query operations.

Vearch fits an ecosystem-oriented development stack through integrations with LangChain, LlamaIndex, Langchaingo, and LangChain4j. Official SDKs cover Python, Go, Java, and Rust, giving application teams several ways to connect their services. Deployment flexibility is a central part of the product: teams can use Kubernetes, Docker Compose, or build from source. That flexibility benefits organizations with self-hosted operational requirements, while teams seeking a managed hosted service should consider a different product category.

The feature depth is strongest around configurable vector retrieval. Vearch supports HNSW, IVFPQ, IVFFLAT, BINARYIVF, FLAT, and GPU indexes, along with multiple vector fields, multi-vector search, range filtering, and metadata filtering. Distributed deployment, replication, and elastic scaling extend that capability beyond a single-node setup. Vearch is a focused choice for teams prioritizing open-source control and distributed vector infrastructure. It is less suitable when lexical or keyword-plus-vector search, sparse-vector search, or a hosted operating model is central to the project.
