Our verdict on UpCanary
UpCanary combines uptime monitoring with automated status pages for engineering teams, DevOps engineers, and SaaS companies. It checks HTTP, HTTPS, TCP, DNS, SSL certificates, and Ping endpoints from monitoring locations across six continents, then can update public, private, or protected status pages from monitor results. Team roles, email outage alerts, uptime history, response-time metrics, and service dependency status lists extend the product beyond a basic uptime dashboard. It is operated by Algoventis GmbH, headquartered in Switzerland.
The pricing structure separates monthly subscriptions from one-time monitoring-credit purchases. The free Basic plan includes 100,000 credits on signup, one status page, unlimited monitors with credits, account-owner email alerts, and 14-day data retention. Starter costs $9 per month or $90 per year and adds 100,000 credits per month, five team member seats, three status pages, 500 email subscribers, and 30-day retention. Pro costs $29 per month or $290 per year, with 400,000 monthly credits, unlimited team members, 10 status pages, 5,000 email subscribers, and 90-day retention. One-time credit packs start at $6 for 200,000 credits, while $12 provides 500,000 and $30 provides 1.5 million; these credits never expire.
UpCanary fits teams that want monitoring and status communication in one web-based product, especially when usage may vary and credits are preferable to a fixed monitoring allowance. Its visibility controls and role-based access support different audiences, while email covers outage alerts and subscriber notifications. The trade-off is a focused ecosystem: Email is the listed integration, and custom domains plus maintenance scheduling are planned rather than current features. Incident documentation is still in development, although the changelog reports full incident management as released, so teams should review the current workflow before relying on it for formal incident communications. Choose UpCanary for flexible monitoring-backed pages; consider an alternative if broader integrations, custom domains, or mature maintenance workflows are central requirements.
