Our verdict on Upbound

Upbound is a platform engineering product for teams building and operating managed infrastructure control planes. It is designed for platform engineers, startups, and enterprises managing cloud, on-premises, or air-gapped infrastructure. Its Crossplane-based control planes provide programmable APIs for provisioning resources, while the web console and unified API support control-plane management. Continuous reconciliation, provider packages, policy enforcement, RBAC, and operational automation give teams a structured way to expose infrastructure capabilities to internal users.

Pricing follows a freemium model. Community is free forever, requires no license, and is described as a production-ready Community Edition. Standard costs $1,000 per month and adds Enhanced Runtime, Official Packages, Spaces, Identity IAM, RBAC, and up to five control planes. Enterprise adds unlimited team members, unlimited control planes, enterprise security, control plane fleet management, SSO / SAML, and enterprise support.
