Trunk Merge Queue review
A stack-aware queue that batches CI checks and keeps unrelated pull requests moving.

Trunk Merge Queue orchestrates pull requests as they land on a protected branch, checking each against the current target branch and queued work. It is aimed particularly at engineering teams with busy repositories and monorepos that need to validate changes in merge order. Teams working with GitHub stacked pull requests can also use atomic stack merging, while priority merging is available for urgent pull requests.
Queue behavior is the product’s central strength: unrelated pull requests can run in parallel lanes, and compatible changes can share a CI run. If a batch fails, automatic bisection helps isolate the culprit. Anti-flake handling lets downstream pull requests continue testing while a flaky failure is investigated. GitHub and GitLab are source-control options, and integrations also include Bazel, Nx, Slack, Prometheus, and Datadog. REST API, webhooks, CLI, and MCP provide automation paths. CI runners remain with the customer, so teams should account for their own runner setup and maintenance.
The Free plan includes Merge Queue features at $0 per committer per month. Team is also displayed at $0 per committer per month and includes unlimited committers and Merge Queue features; a trial is available, but the pricing FAQ says Team becomes paid after the trial without publishing the post-trial price. Enterprise has custom pricing, 24/7 support with response SLAs, and an on-premises or bring-your-own-cloud option documented as private preview. Choose Trunk when queue-aware validation and stack handling address a real bottleneck; teams seeking a fully managed CI runner or predictable published Team pricing should consider alternatives.
