Our verdict on Traficom Anycast DNS
Traficom Anycast DNS is a free secondary DNS service for .fi domain registrars and their domain holders. It is designed for registrars that want geographically distributed name-service nodes for .fi domains, with continued DNS responses when an anycast node goes offline. The service is provided by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom and is available through the web-based anycast service portal.
The main appeal is its focused resilience model. Anycast distributes name-service nodes across multiple geographic locations, which can support availability and DNS query response times across locations. Automatic continued responses during an anycast node failure add continuity, while the service is also intended to provide DDoS resilience for name services. These capabilities make it a practical fit for .fi registrars seeking secondary DNS without a subscription charge. The Free plan includes anycast secondary DNS for .fi domains and is available to .fi domain registrars.
Onboarding is straightforward in structure but registrar-led rather than self-serve: the registrar requests access by email, after which Traficom creates an account in the service portal and connects the registrar to the service. Technical support is available by email and telephone. The trade-off is a narrow scope: this is not a general secondary DNS option for other domain extensions, and the published offering does not include a verified API or DNSSEC. Choose Traficom Anycast DNS if free, geographically distributed secondary DNS for .fi domains is the priority; choose another service if broader domain coverage, automation through an API, or DNSSEC is required.
