Our verdict on Tower

Tower is a desktop Git client for developers, designers, and teams working with local and remote repositories. It supports visual staging and committing, branch and commit workflows, interactive rebase, merge conflict resolution, submodules, Git LFS, repository history, and pull-request actions. The application runs on macOS and Windows, making it a fit for professional teams that want a graphical interface with more repository controls than basic commit and branch operations. Teams seeking a free Git GUI or a Linux desktop application should look elsewhere.

Pricing is organized into Basic, Pro, and Enterprise subscriptions, with annual billing. Basic costs $69 per user per year, or $5.75 per user per month when billed annually, and includes one user, macOS and Windows versions, unlimited app updates, and Pull Requests and Services Manager for cloud code hosting. Pro costs $129 per user per year, or $10.75 per user per month on annual billing; it adds exclusive Pro features, basic team management, dedicated billing and admin roles, and consolidated billing. Enterprise costs $149 per user per year, or $12.42 per user per month on annual billing, adding advanced team management, invoicing and wire transfer, priority support, advanced deployment and activation, and SAML-based SSO. A 30-day trial is available, but there is no perpetual free plan.

Tower’s ecosystem coverage is a practical strength for teams working across hosted Git services. Integrations include GitHub, Bitbucket, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Perforce GitSwarm, CodeBase, Assembla, Beanstalk, and Planio. Pull requests can be created, reviewed, merged, and closed from the client, while automatic fetching and stashing, drag-and-drop workflows, and undo support address recurring repository tasks. Choose Tower when staging, rebase, conflict, LFS, submodule, and pull-request workflows justify a paid desktop client. Choose an alternative if free access, Linux support, or a narrower tool is the priority.
