Our verdict on Tonic.ai

Tonic.ai provides synthetic data and data de-identification software for developers, QA teams, data engineers, and AI teams. Its Fabricate product generates relational databases, unstructured documents, free text, and mock APIs from prompts, schemas, sample data, or connected databases. The platform supports development, testing, model training, simulations, and privacy-sensitive workflows, with web, API, and self-hosted deployment options. It is suited to teams that need more than database test records, including workflows involving documents, emails, JSON, PDFs, DOCX files, and API responses.

The published plans include a Free tier with monthly credits, basic data export options, Discord support, and Tonic Cloud deployment. Plus costs $29 per month and adds a larger monthly credit allocation, pay-as-you-go additional usage, and email support alongside Discord support. Enterprise uses custom pricing and adds pooled usage, centralized billing, expanded export options, dedicated customer support, multiple workspaces with RBAC, and SSO authentication. This structure gives smaller teams a way to start without a subscription, while teams with higher or shared usage need to evaluate metered Plus usage or Enterprise terms.

Feature breadth is the main reason to consider Tonic.ai. It supports referential integrity across relational and cross-system data, direct database connectivity, automated validation, Plan Mode for complex schemas, API-callable workflows, and MCP integration for Claude, Cursor, and VS Code. Integrations include PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Salesforce, Amazon S3, and other listed systems, with outputs such as CSV, JSON, XML, SQL, Parquet, and Iceberg. Choose it when one platform must cover structured data, unstructured content, and mock APIs; choose an alternative if you need a narrower tool with no metered usage or custom enterprise tier.
