Our verdict on Tile

Tile pairs Bluetooth trackers with a mobile app for people who want to keep track of keys, wallets, bags, and other items. Available on iOS and Android, it can ring a Tile within Bluetooth range or show its last known location on a map. The app also supports ringing a nearby phone by double-pressing the Tile button. Its core locator features are available without a subscription, making it a focused option for Tile owners rather than a general-purpose tracker app for mixed brands.

When a Tile is out of range, its location can be updated anonymously through the Tile Network if another Tile app user comes within range. Tile Detector can help locate a nearby Tile, and Scan and Secure can detect nearby Tiles and Tile-enabled devices. These features extend the app beyond direct Bluetooth ringing, but the crowdsourced update mechanism depends on other app users passing near the lost tracker. Buyers should consider that distinction if they need predictable location updates for an item that may be far from other users.
