Our verdict on ThreatOpus

ThreatOpus is a cloud-hosted security platform for security, platform, and engineering teams that want threat modeling connected to development workflows. It combines AI-assisted modeling with pull-request security checks, allowing teams to describe architectures, import OpenAPI or Terraform, generate STRIDE-aligned threats and mitigations, track findings, compare model versions, and export reports. Its workflow focus makes it a fit for teams that want security review to sit alongside source control and CI processes rather than operate as a separate documentation task.

Pricing is structured around a free plan and three paid tiers. Free includes threat modeling, PR Security reviews, one repository, one SCM or CI provider, STRIDE, Slack, and Microsoft Teams. Starter costs £129.99 per month and adds all SCM and CI providers, an OPA policy bundle, and email support. Pro costs £299.99 per month and adds all listed methodologies, priority support, and eight hours of expert consultation per month. Enterprise adds unlimited team workspaces, unlimited threat-modeling generations, custom repositories, all listed methodologies, and single sign-on. The published pricing also states that annual billing saves 20%.

The strongest fit is for organizations that need repeatable modeling and policy checks across tools such as GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Jenkins, CircleCI, Azure DevOps, TeamCity, AWS CodeBuild, and Travis CI. Pull-request checks return PASS, WARN, or FAIL outcomes, while policy bundles and attack-path context help connect changes to security decisions. Data-flow diagrams, version history, audit logs, API keys, configurable retention, JSON export, and chat notifications broaden its operational coverage. Smaller teams with one repository may find the free plan sufficient; teams needing broader methodology coverage, unlimited workspaces, or single sign-on should consider the higher tiers.
