Our verdict on The Newsletter Plugin
The Newsletter Plugin is a self-hosted WordPress email marketing plugin for publishers that need to build subscriber lists, create responsive newsletters, and send recurring campaigns from their own websites. Its core toolkit covers subscription forms, shortcodes, widgets, list-based targeting, visual email composition, and campaign reports with click and open tracking. That makes it a focused fit for WordPress publishers whose newsletter activity is closely tied to their site, content, memberships, events, or store.
The free plan provides the main publishing foundation: subscription forms and shortcodes, a responsive visual composer, targeting by list, basic reports, and a REST API. Paid plans expand the operating scope by tier. Essential adds use on up to 1 site, advanced reports, Google Analytics, geolocation, and form-builder integrations. Professional supports up to 3 sites and adds autoresponders, email series, automatic newsletter generation, WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, and delivery-service integrations. Agency supports unlimited sites, automation, commerce and membership integrations, form-builder integrations, and delivery-service integrations. Premium licenses are one-time payments with one year of support and updates.
Its ecosystem fit is a central strength. Integrations include WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, Ultimate Member, MemberPress, Paid Membership Pro, The Events Calendar, Events Manager, EventPrime, BuddyPress, TranslatePress, Popup Maker, Contact Form 7, WPForms, Gravity Forms, and Ninja Forms. The plugin also supports external email-delivery services, while sending may remain subject to hosting-provider restrictions. Choose it when WordPress ownership, recurring newsletters, and site-connected audience targeting matter most. Choose an alternative when you need a hosted email platform that removes infrastructure responsibility or when your workflow depends on capabilities outside its stated feature set.
